Your horses and their current occupation

Horses:

  1. Esme- 18 year old Morgan mare, semi-retired endurance horse, dipping her toes in Ride and Tie, can safely cart most anyone around out on trail, has given several newbies their first endurance miles
  2. Freya- 12 year old RMH mare, semi-free loader because she’s kind of an a$$hat to ride, but she kicks butt at Equathon
  3. Nicky- 21 year old Fjord mare, technically my niece’s pony, worth her weight in gold as an opinioned but very steady bulldozer
  4. Kitai- 3.5 year old Morgan mare, just ended her free loader status when she got started last month
  5. Djinn- 9 year old arab gelding, currently freeloadin’ but leaving for a 2 month “boot camp” in a couple weeks

Puppers- Gessato 4 year old Mastiff/ Cane Corso- earns his keep going to work with me daily and greeting customers

The freeloadin’est of freeloaders- the house cats
Thing Too, Ivan the Purrible, Tomten and Belsnickel

I have a 20yo half Andalusian who is back to dressage training after years off due to her rider that at times couldn’t even be called pasture sound :upside_down_face:.
She is also learning how to be a trail horse after I turned her into an arena :sunflower: .
Oh, her name is Valkyra GPA aka Kyra.

What a beautiful horse!

Thank you. I am rather partial to her. I have had her since she was a coming 2yo. Other than her very first ride that I let my instructor’s crash test dummy (apprentice) do, I can take credit for it all…the good and the bad (good>>>>bad).

Belle, 26 yo Conn x TB mare, is currently getting back in shape after 4 months of pasture rest for ligament damage. She thinks walking a trotting is boring, and wants to know when we can start galloping and jumping again. (Her primary discipline is eventing)

Tiara, 12 yo Conn x TB mare, currently on the “injured reserves” with a case of “poll evil” that hasn’t cleared up completely in spite of over $10,000 in vet bills. She seems to enjoy her life of leisure.

Trace, 20 yr old TWH gelding. Retired from showing (locally and flat shod, thank you very much). He likes exploring trails and bumming around the barn.

Dollar, 12 yr old TWH pasture puff grazing his life away and having a great time!! Forever my boy despite his incredibly short and lackluster riding career!

Maybe #3 in spring so Trace can catch a break lol

My big brown nag living it up in retirement in Kentucky. He’s only 17 so he’ll be on the payroll for a long time lol

My 4 year old GRP cross who is showing great promise as an eventer and has been super fun to bring along. He is also PeepyCats brother but a lot easier to find :joy:. Also pictured is the sweetest little BeeBop, my 3yo dog child.

Horses: Bella: 20 year old companion pony, came to me cheap from a barrel racing career and injury. By far the most expensive, requiring special food, supplements, fly sheets, waterproof sheets, blankets, etc. Does her job beautifully and is a sweetheart.
Buddy: 12 year Shire gelding. Supposed to be working. Does do a good job posing for pictures at the winery next door in harness and putting up with the young boy. Definitely does not work as much as he should or would like to. Has a tendency to tweak a weak tendon every time we finally get back into ‘work’.
Sunny: 3 year old Shire gelding. Finally no longer a horse I would classify as feral, which is good because he is growing, and growing, and growing.
And then we have Miss Kitty. Miss Kitty is a strictly indoor, large, fluffy, orange cat with all of three teeth. An excellent mouser, treat hunter, and companion…for me. I’m the only one who hasn’t been severely bitten or scratched by her. Yes, she sleeps in bed with me, keeps me company working, and insists on regular laps. But only from me. I don’t think I could go on vacation.

Ohhh boy

In order of species and age:

Bay (original I know) 28ish Morgan gelding, ringbone and DSLD so he either chills with the donkeys on work days around the barn or gets to wander loose on the farm and go where he wants, including occasionally requesting access to the girls’ paddock so he can do kissy faces with the filly and try to eat the pony mare.

Rory, 13 yo IDSH, currently on suspensory rehab, his job is to heal and maybe grow a BRAIN but doubt it because he is a stupid asshole (I love him to pieces and suffered horrible depression after he got benched).

Maizey, aka the perfect pony, 8 yo medium pony. She got most of the summer off because of above depression and work but going back into work between me and a wee friend.

Libbi, 2 yo IDSH, her job is just being a growing baby horse

The burritos… no jobs

Wesley, my 7 yo bestfriend, he is the Protector of the Realm. His halfsister just checked pregnant so I’m hoping he’ll be a cool uncle early next year.

I love Maisey like crazy!!

Miss Kitty! Waiting for me to finish the work day and feed her. The second picture is a favorite, I was attempting to take a picture of the bag of supplement treats to send to a friend, who was not at all sure if her cat would like them, and didn’t believe that mine did…Note the thumb claw, well hooked into the counter

Free loader in chief: Norman, aged TB, good for ensuring weekly vet bills

Junior free loader in training: Denali, 10 yr old Friesian x, does ride when I’m not wimping out on him

Denies all accusations of free loading: Stella, 5 yr old Belgian Malinois. Certain she is protecting us from all manner of no good intruders

Calls the rest of free loaders: Taffy 11 yo cat aka supreme empress of everything

you sound like me. If they don’t want to work, well, grazing down the pastures is something you can do for me in lieu of being ridden. I have five i ride regularly… Three more that i’m just beginning with. One is in a bridle with a bit (!!) and a saddle. Other two are still bareback with bitless bridles. A bunch of my horses are non-ridden, some will never be, others i just haven’t started yet.
Then there are the cattle, the sheep and their guard llamas. Some free range chickens and guinea fowl. Barn cats, indoor cat and five dogs.

Lots of animals here… NONE bring home a paycheck! lol

17 horses
2 mules
5 dogs
4 cats
80ish sheep
10 cattle
3 llamas
12 guinea fowl
8 hens
