Your horses and their current occupation

We have a bunch of freeloaders but honestly, they enrich the spirit (most of the time  ) so no hard feelings.

Rajah, mid-teen arab gelding who was retired a year ago due to DSLD. He has had a very light, on and off again career which has probably prolonged his life. His sire is an endurance champ of some repute and I wish I could simply transplant a set of healthy hind legs onto this boy. We are supporting him with pain meds, soft shavings and gentle hand walking these days but his prognosis isn’t great.

Seven years ago at a clinic:

We had two other retirees who left us last month. One was an emergency colic and the other was planned. RIP.

My 5 yo ottb, who is chilling for a year (or maybe forever) due to what appears to be an old gate injury or some sort of fall that impacted a few of her vertebrae. She is fine for riding and life generally as long as you don’t want to trot or canter her in a clockwise circle.

I recently bought a 6ish yo grade appy gelding who, KNOCK ON WOOD, is turning out to be a cool
little fellow. He needs some conditioning, have only had him a week. Hopeful low level all arounder type.

That forelock.

We also keep a flock of bright orange and sweet as pie orpington hens, and two easter eggers (never again with the EEs, they’re simply too odd), as well as four lovely cats, two dopey dogs, and a splendid amount of fish friends split between a planted 60g freshwater community and a 25g clownfish/anemone biotope.

Some of the fam represented here:
Nandor is recovering from
stress-induced feline eye herpes (he is a shelter kitten, adopted two weeks ago) and yes, I put the monstera out of reach after this!

That last hen looks homicidal.

I run a retirement / rehab livery so pretty much every horse on my farm is a loved to nth degree you live your best life freeloader

This includes my rather beautiful Alter Real Lusitano boy who has been retired due to his horrendous stifles for a couple of years now
My other boy is living his best non-competitive life but we are enjoying classical dressage schooling, mooching around the beautiful countryside and low level jumping. He’d previously successfully evented to Intermediate and SJ 1.30
He came to me for six months rehab on a last chance saloon or bullet deal as he’d reached dangerous levels of unmanageable & unrideable due to deep seated pain issues. I turned him around in the rehab job of my life and in doing so fell absolutely and utterly in love with this daft, lairy, big, brave joker of a horse.
His (very generous and lovely) owners gifted him to me - this is a horse previously trained and competed by a current Olympic gold medalist, so the most incredible horse my bottom will ever get the pleasure of sitting on lol!
I cannot thank my lucky stars enough to be trusted to care for him for the rest of his hopefully much happier days.

12yr old Spirit, never broke, tried to ride 2x, decided was not worth the risk, living the bestestest fata&& pony life, grazing, getting trimmed and shots and just enjoying being an equine lawn mower

Buddy, the most amazing lab n pit mix goofball happy go lucky doggo ever, went from getting dumped n running around in the boonies to showing up at a friends barn and moving into my place living the couch n bed potato life

Toothless (black cat) n Sugar being in love, both brought to the house by our outdoor cat and then moved inside at my daughters insistence… poor outdoor kitty cannot keep a friend! Uploading: 20221001_145935.jpg…

Mister T due to the white T on his back, showed up 2 houses before this one in the dead of winter at my back porch and never left. Been with us since 2011. His job is to kill everything but barn mice, greet me with begging for food everytime I walk outside, and sometimes attack my legs and my daughters like they are his personal noodle toys.

This one counts as a freeloader since all she does is make sure the animals never leave, and expects me to feed, water and clean poop up for my entire life lol!!! She is SOO lucky shes adorable!

RIP our old senior in the pic, that was his last morning with us and she was trying to be brave for him.

The school uniforms? I mean they were itchy and sucked, the school itself was a nightmare!! Looking back at it now I can laugh about it though.

Please tell Miss Kitty thank you very much from my kitty Velvet and me, for the recommendation of the VetriScience supplement treats. I had never heard of that brand until our vet recommended their Glycoflex treats a week ago. Velvet loves them! She hated her previous Cosequin supplement but gobbles down the VetriScience Glycoflex chewies.
