We have a bunch of freeloaders but honestly, they enrich the spirit (most of the time ) so no hard feelings.
Rajah, mid-teen arab gelding who was retired a year ago due to DSLD. He has had a very light, on and off again career which has probably prolonged his life. His sire is an endurance champ of some repute and I wish I could simply transplant a set of healthy hind legs onto this boy. We are supporting him with pain meds, soft shavings and gentle hand walking these days but his prognosis isn’t great.
Seven years ago at a clinic:
We had two other retirees who left us last month. One was an emergency colic and the other was planned. RIP.
My 5 yo ottb, who is chilling for a year (or maybe forever) due to what appears to be an old gate injury or some sort of fall that impacted a few of her vertebrae. She is fine for riding and life generally as long as you don’t want to trot or canter her in a clockwise circle.
I recently bought a 6ish yo grade appy gelding who, KNOCK ON WOOD, is turning out to be a cool
little fellow. He needs some conditioning, have only had him a week. Hopeful low level all arounder type.
That forelock.
We also keep a flock of bright orange and sweet as pie orpington hens, and two easter eggers (never again with the EEs, they’re simply too odd), as well as four lovely cats, two dopey dogs, and a splendid amount of fish friends split between a planted 60g freshwater community and a 25g clownfish/anemone biotope.
Some of the fam represented here:
Nandor is recovering from
stress-induced feline eye herpes (he is a shelter kitten, adopted two weeks ago) and yes, I put the monstera out of reach after this!
