Your Voting Experience Today- 11/5/2024

Thought I would start a thread on this.

We moved here in July 2023, so this was our first time at our polling station. It is a small community center in the middle of farmland, but only 10 miles outside of a university town.

The community center offers food for sale as a fundraiser for the community during elections, so we were greeted by the smell of chicken corn soup when we walked in the door.

Our neighbor told us he had never encountered more than 6 people in line, and he has voted there his entire life. There were 24 ahead of us at 9:30 a.m. If this is any indication for the rest of the country, this is going to be a huge election!

People were pleasant and polite, and the line moved fairly quickly.

I voted by mail this year (and usually do) because I’m usually in the UK right about now. The process was smooth (I drop my ballot off at the supervisor of elections) and I got the notification because I’m in Florida that my ballot had been recorded. Whew! Talked to all the kids today and they have all voted this morning before work other than the one who is now permanently living in the UK.

I voted last Thursday (first day for no-excuse early voting in Kentucky) around 8 am. Voting was held in a very large recreation center in my hometown. There were lots of people coming and going, probably triple the amount we saw for the last presidential election. Everything worked smoothly and efficiently. We were in and out in less than 20 minutes.

I voted by mail weeks ago.

According to a quick internet search, it looks like about 66% of eligible voters actually bothered to vote in the last presidential election. I think it will be interesting to see what the percentage is this year.

Ah yes, I forget you’re in kentucky. The lexington kid also voted early

I dropped my ballot in a ballet box (mail-in option, but also designated ballot boxes) last week, checked online and mine has already been accepted.

I just got back from voting. I went in to work, got the day going and then went to vote. I was in and out in less than 15 mins, no line. I’m in a rural, small town. The sign wavers in the parking lot were obnoxious as always but I just ignore them. This was the first time I’ve ever been specifically told no phones but I leave mine in the car anyway. I could choose between a paper or electronic ballot. I chose electronic

Same. Our ballots were recorded on October 30. I love mail-in voting!

We voted on Saturday. That was one of 2 Saturdays open for early voting. There was a line outside the courthouse. Polls had been open for about 45 minutes when we got there. Probably about 30 or so people in front of us. We didn’t sign the actual “rolls” as we have in the past but a single paper that didn’t have our signature on it. I have voted early before and don’t remember what we signed then. On election day the election workers have a binder that they flip through and it has your signature on it and you sign below. Our ballot was the President and three advisory questions for possible referendum measures, judge retention 5 (all R) and 3 uncontested- State Senator ( R) County Treasurer(D), and one county board race ( R) (my ex boss) (whom got an open circle this round LOL). So voting once one got their ballot was pretty quick. The machines were set to not flag ballots with unmarked races. In the past there has been some sort of second screen you had to approve if something was blank. Either law has changed or they anticipated a delay and reset them.
My colleagues who went out this morning said there were lines.

Edited to add well now I know how to code the registered trademark symbol

I voted on my way to work this morning, small rural town and we vote at the fire station - two lines, one for the village and one for the town. There were 2 people ahead of me in line, both for the village so I just went to the town table. It did take them a minute to find me in the system - I ended up showing my ID so they could get the spelling right.

Overall, I was in and out in under 10 minutes and at 7:30 am I was #40 for my small town.

I’m always baffled by the fact that people who have the right to vote simply don’t bother. This year especially, women really need to step up and get it done.

I hope this election draws a huge turn-out (and that most of them vote for my candidate. :grinning:)

Same.

On both counts!

Also, I saw on the news that Krispy Kreme is giving free doughnuts today to people who show their “I voted” stickers. :us::doughnut::us:

DH and I dropped off our ballots last week and got notification that they were counted. We are permanent vote-by-mail voters (CA). DD#2 voted early in NYC. DD#1 mailed in her ballot a long time ago from the Congo.

Wow. Props to her.

Voted this AM. My area is rural and I vote at the local church. Line was wrapped around the church with a full parking lot. Took about an hour from arrival.

The folks running the voting always do a lovely job and I got to see a couple neighbors.

More people than normal but folks were also very grumpy about our local Commissioners and can’t wait to vote them out of office.

I sent my mail in ballot in a few weeks ago and was notified it was recorded on the 25 of Oct. (i am a registered D)

DH is registered ind. went to go and stand in line today. He was #87 and it took 30 ish mins.
For context we are rural.

My bestie lives in Chalfont in Bucks County Pa. (outside of Philly) and waited 1.5 hours to vote this morning.

if that alone is not a reason to vote, I don’t know what is. PS. I always used to get my free donut when I lived in Tampa.

Voted at 8 am at the local high school. Steady stream but no lines or waiting.

In Virginia it is paper ballots which we then feed into the scanner.

I don’t even live near a Krispy Kreme. Plus I voted early by mail, so I don’t have a sticker. And I definitely don’t need a doughnut anyway.

But I still wanted to spread the word. Lol.

@cutter99 Knowing where you generally are, that is awesome! Voter turn out is going to be off the chain this year.

I voted early last week at the town offices. There were 4 others voting. You either give your address or your drivers license and they check you off. They give you a ballot and an envelope to put it in; you sign the envelope before voting and put your ballot in and seal the envelope afterwards.
