Does anyone know if she was bred for 2021 foal? If she was, who was the stallion?

She was bred to Candy Ride again this year.

Thanks!

I am curious–not only with respect to Zenyatta but more generally-- how well a mare’s race record translates into producing successful offspring. It seems like a lot of the superstar mares struggle to get pregnant and the foals are far more lack luster than the dams. Just my general impression and I am just curious if there is more information out there, especially regarding the superstar race mares.

Thank you for posting the video ~ really enjoyed it !

When you have a mare that is a generational talent the chances of her producing a generational talent are obviously small since there are only so many generational talents and it’s not often they strike twice like that, but there is zero question that top race mares are the most likely to produce a top race horse.

I love seeing these great race mares go from racing fit to a well rounded, mature broodmare who’s loving on their latest offspring. :love-struck:

I think it’s pretty rare for a really outstanding race mare to produce her equal or better. One of the few great racehorses that was also a blue hen that I can think of off the top of my head is Personal Ensign, who was undefeated in 13 starts as a champion and G1 winner, and then produced Miner’s Mark, Our Emblem (sire of KY Derby winner War Emblem), My Flag (dam of Storm Flag Flying), Salute (dam of Mr Speaker), etc.

But at least in my observation, it’s most common for nice mares (ie from producing families) that themselves were winners or moderate stakes horses, that become the most blue hen producers. But I’ve also seen several times where a great mare’s daughters or granddaughters become great producers (like…it skips a generation or two) . Take those thoughts for what they’re worth.

But I love Zenyatta the most of any racehorse in my lifetime, and love seeing her babies.
