Zenyatta has a filly

“Dearth” was a bit exaggeratory. But I can rattle off a considerable number of sires who should still be around today who left large holes in the mid-range market that don’t feel like they were ever filled by anyone equivalent. (Harlan’s Holiday, Bernstein, Dixie Union, et. al.)

But I’m sure that perception is just from the polarization you note. Those boys may have been standing for $100K or cast off to wherever by this point.

This has zero to do with Zenyatta, so moot point.

I don’t care about moot points, lol. I’m enjoying the conversation.

Harlan’s Holiday was 50K when he died which seems a little higher than mid-range to me. I’d imagine he’d have been higher than that now. Dixie Union was an inconsistent sire…it’s hard to tell which way he would have gone. But whether it was up or down for him, I doubt that he and HH would be middle market now.

While I regret the premature loss of both of them (we had a mare booked to HH when he died) I think their place has been taken by stallions like Flatter, Mineshaft, Blame, and Congrats to name a few. There are still mid-range stallions siring plenty of good horses–but nobody pays much attention to them anymore.

Unfortunately it’s official: Ann and Jerry Moss are getting a divorce.

Somehow this is sad, though I don’t even know them. Next thought: who gets Zenyatta???

:frowning:

Wouldn’t be surprised if the racing interested owned by the Mosses are maybe owned by a corporation of some sort (I really don’t know but wouldn’t be surprised and no, I haven’t looked so maybe not).

PS. Where did you read about the Mosses as I didn’t find anything.

Having nothing to do with racing but many, many moons ago when I was much younger, I remember going with my parents to the lovely outdoor Greek Theater in Griffith Park (Los Angeles) to watch a fantastic trumpet player, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass who had a record label A & M where the M was Jerry Moss  It was 1966 as we also saw Brazil 66.

It’s on Zenyatta’s FB page. Very Sad.

Thank you both for the update (I don’t follow Z’s web page/blog  ).

Nice to see Z looking relaxed, and well, like a horse and not a raring to go racehorse

I am sure she, along with the rest of the Moss’s stable, will be in good hands.

Z looks great - dapples all over! And yes, so settled. Lovely filly.

Speaking of moot or O/T points?? <color me puzzled!>
… OH! Wait ~ was this the pair I saw in a newsreel several years ago ~ Man is ‘very’ happy-huggies on his wife. It was VERY creepy to me! Very famous horse-owners, if I recall: the guy could NOT keep his hands off of his wife!
I was so CREEPED-OUT by this man squeezing & hugging his wife. ick!

Stop reminding me of my age…

As long as you remember I remember it too

Believe I have two Herb Alpert albums from my mother’s stuff somewhere still…

Collectors items now I am sure

Still do like his music though.

Having a picnic dinner with cold fried chicken and potato salad before heading into the theater for a performance is one of my fondest childhood memories…

Was Zenyatta bred back this year? If so, do you know to who?
TIA.
