Texarkana, I would disagree with you about the “dearth of proven sires on the market”. I don’t think it’s the number of available horses that has changed–it’s the market.
Everything having to do with horseracing is so polarized now. With respect to stallions, a horse is either a top sire or he’s nothing. A horse that 10-15 years ago would have been considered a “useful stallion” is now thought of as barely above a failure. There are plenty of good mid-range stallions around who in the recent past would have been respected sires. But now they have a hard time filling their books because the sales are all about the top end, and everything below that doesn’t count.
