Zenyatta has a filly

Zenyatta had a Medaglia d’Oro filly tonight. I hope all goes well for this one health wise. She’s had such bad luck with the last two. Z looks adorably content as usual in the picture on Zenyatta.com. That mare obviously just loves being a mother.

Is this her first filly? I tried to track her foals on Equineline and only found the first two males. Then nothing afterwards.

Third foal was a filly. That one was injured in a paddock accident too badly to save. Fourth foal was a colt, aspirated meconium and died of pneumonitis.

Her 2014 War Front filly died in a paddock accident shortly after weaning.

Awww, a filly! That’s great. I was hoping for a filly. I hope all is well with both Momma and baby. Hopefully tomorrow we’ll have more details and more pictures!

This may be the fan in me talking but this is the mating I wanted for her from the start. So glad it is a filly!

He certainly has some super fillies and with Zenyatta as mom I have high hopes for this one!

I squealed out loud when I saw the photo! :love-struck: What a cutie. And an Medaglia d’Oro filly out of Zenyatta? -swoon- I had my fingers crossed so hard for a little girl <3

She and her connections have had such rotten luck with losing babies. :frowning: Hoping better luck for this one!

Wish they would post more pictures!!!

New pictures just up. Looks like three socks and a star. The filly looks a lot lighter dry.

Didn’t realize she’d lost one of her colts too, what a shame.

Fingers crossed for this pretty girl!

Whoa, yeah!

Normally I’m not a fan of bubble-wrapping horses but after the last two, with the pure stupid BAD LUCK, I’d have a bodyguard on her until she’s old enough to leave for training!

Zenyatta is in foal to Into Mischief for 2018.

I like that they’ve bred her to a stallion that produces speed.

Love that her filly is by Megdalia D’Oro. It was like the Holy Grail visiting Darley with Street Cry in one paddock, and Medaglia D’Oro in another. Dads of the best racing fillies ever, grazing next to each other.

I wonder why Into Mischief this year. No knowledge about him as a stallion, and no judgment - just curious. Although now, with a little digging, he has some impressive individuals.

I don’t know their reasons and I’m not going to pretend to know. Into Mischief is a lovely stallion who gets good runners, though. I like the idea.

We also have a considerable dearth of proven sires on the market at a moment (IMO), thanks to several key premature deaths. It may just be my perspective, but I don’t ever recall the landscape looking like it does now.

My quote function isn’t working…

Texarkana, I would disagree with you about the “dearth of proven sires on the market”. I don’t think it’s the number of available horses that has changed–it’s the market.

Everything having to do with horseracing is so polarized now. With respect to stallions, a horse is either a top sire or he’s nothing. A horse that 10-15 years ago would have been considered a “useful stallion” is now thought of as barely above a failure. There are plenty of good mid-range stallions around who in the recent past would have been respected sires. But now they have a hard time filling their books because the sales are all about the top end, and everything below that doesn’t count. :frowning:
