Zenyatta's little sis making her debut

I wonder if she’ll be cataloged as a broodmare prospect, or racing/broodmare prospect? [/QUOTE]

The Keeneland Nov Sale catalog just made available - Hip #: 130 Session #: 1 Barn #: 6 - listed as “Broodmare prospect”

PDF - HIP #130.

The owner of Mr Commons just bought Ebby for 2.1 million and is sending her back to John Sherriffs for training.

This is great news!

Hmmm … I should keep my mouth shut but I don’t see the logic in the purchase price or sending her back to John.

His switch to the East Coast has been far from fruitful. 2013 is going to yield his lowest earnings since 2004. Sometimes you just need a change between horse and stable. $2.1 million seems rather excessive for a mare who always seems to have an excuse or bad luck with being a race horse.

I wish them all well regardless of my opinion.

Because she is a good broodmare prospect, that’s why they spent $2.1 million. But, really, she “always” seems to have an excuse or bad luck? She has only raced three times. She lost one, where she had legitimate gate problems. Maybe she’ll come back and do something. If not, then off to be a broodmare she goes. Nice looking mare by Bernardini. Half to Zenyatta and Balance. Not a shabby pedigree. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s overpriced if she doesn’t do anything else on the track. But if she wins a graded stake it will be a bargain. She has a lot of talent and will get black type at some level if she stays sound. Even if she does get hurt her talent is well recognized enough that her foals will sell great if good looking. It was a good chance to buy her now and not wait until she is 5-10 million after a graded stakes win and in foal to War Front or Tapit.

WOW! Thanks for the video.

Gorgeous.

Aw, poor girl really needed to pee, huh? Might just be nerves, I know, but my bladder ached for her.

Poor girl is right! Those guys really know how to handle those sale horses. Back her up against the wall. She won’t want to pee on herself! As many times as I’ve been to the sales, I don’t remember seeing one go through with ear plugs before.

Some do. But usually the consignor will use a matching color and push it down inside the ears (like you would do with a hunter) rather than having big white blobs of cotton sticking up so noticeably like that.

I have never seen a horse try to stretch in the ring before! That is talent.

That was Cordell Anderson handling her. He’s a great horseman and a great guy. He didn’t back her up to the wall to stop her from peeing, he kept her moving. He wouldn’t risk putting a horse up against a wall, they would freak out and kick out.

Ran 5/18 in the G3 Adoration Stakes at Santa Anita. I only noticed as I was betting someone else, I actually forgot she was in it until I was checking results tonight. Checked the chart–she bombed again, stalked the pace three wide, took the rail, faded to last of nine. That makes her 5: 2-1-0-0, with her wins in a MSW and AOC, the second in an ALW. Dead last in both her stakes attempts, and this time she didn’t have a bad break.

Oh, dear. Did look like she was running with quick rather than even strides in the backstretch. Hope she’s ok.

She did look not right down the backstretch…wonder if she bowed a tendon or something. Poor girl. She honestly just isn’t showing me she wants to be a racehorse, or can hold up to the rigors of the track.

No length to her stride throughout, and Stevens stopped on her early. I hope she’s OK.

I think it’s the total opposite. She is showing she wants to be a racehorse, not a novelty. She tried like hell in the stretch, she was just simply outclassed. I’d bet the farm that mare would thrive off of a little pressure. I understand that she is a very valuable horse as a broodmare, but personally I don’t see the point in keeping one in training to race if you won’t let it be a racehorse.

Zenyatta either did well with the celebrity treatment or did well in spite of it, but that is a what a great horse does. This is an above average but below greatness filly. Either give her the chance to win or retire her. She did not appear off to me at all. She moves like her big sister, which was a little unorthodox until she really got the chance to roll.

Same here. Honestly, she won at lower levels. She might want to run, she just can’t run against this quality of a field. Drop her back to ALW/AOCs where she’s shown she can compete.
