Hi,
Can anyone tell me what happened to the Zim ponies? Are they still around or does anyone have one? I owned the pony Zims First In Line briefly when I was very young. But I thought they were wonderful ponies and would love to have one as a broodmare!
thanks!
We had Zim’s Hit Parade in our barn for a few years. We bought him from Allyson Colluccio (but she was still Jacoby then). He was a WONDERFUL pony! Haven’t seen any recently though.
Thanks! Let me know if you hear of any mares!!
I had Zim’s Good Lookin’, a.k.a. Zelda, in the 80’s until she died in the 90’s. Professional photographer, Amy Dragoo, showed her when she was in high school. She was Grand Prix rider, Tracey Weinberg’s large pony before then. I’m sure most of them, if not all, are deceased by now.
Some trivia: Before Zim’s was attached to the Zimmerman’s ponies, Winchester was used. I owned the small ponies, Winchester Marine and Winchester June back in the 60’s.
Btw, I think I have a photo of Zim’s Hit Parade when he was on a layover at our farm. It was either before or after Harrisburg with trainer, Trudy Maxwell.
Zim’s Hit Parade was a medium and was shown by Megan Trueman when he was at Trudy’s and that would have been around 1982 0r 1983.
Was it Richard Zimmerman who bred them? I thought they were from Canada.
I think it was RZ’s parents, Henry and Zelda, that started it all. Brother Donnie Zimmerman rode Winchester Marine. Ira was the youngest brother and must be in his early 60’s by now. They were all based in Maryland when I was growing up.
YOU HAD MY PONY!

Sorry to shout, but I nearly did a back flip when I read that. He was mine before he got that Zim’s name.
I called him Shawn and showed him under the name Simon Says. I am near Charleston, SC. We found him in someone’s back yard in Charlotte, NC. We got him when I was nine and that was in 1976.
I would love to have any pictures you may have from then.
Richard bought him from us and sold him under his Zim’s name.
We called around looking for him many years ago and were told by someone, I don’t recall who, that he had been a good boy for years and broken his shoulder in a pasture mishap when he was around 19.
Wow! I loved that pony!

a friend had a zim pony at one point i believe, and the name was zims oh my stars IRRC
Bumping this back up, 'cause I want to see pictures! Pretty Please!
A lot of the Zim’s ponies that Henry and Zelda sold were by Foxhollow Singing Star.
I had one of the few who grew to horses, Zim’s Mr. Spoons.
Trying to remember other names.
Katie16 where did you go?
I sure would love to see pictures of Z’s Hit Parade if you have any?
Hello! I am 13 years late to the party! I was HP’s owner. My folks purchased him in the 80s. I honestly cannot tell you the date, because I was too young to remember. We must have sold him around 30 years ago…is that possible? I can cross-check my dates. I wanted to write immediately because I am shocked to have found this post. I had a pang of nostalgia, and on a whim, I looked for him online tonight. Never in a million years did I expect to find this post! He was such a great pony! I can still remember the sound of his whinny when I entered the barn. He resided at Woodsong Farm in Brewster MA for years. He was my best friend and I miss him terribly. I still dream about him. He loved watermelon rinds; he would drool watermelon juice when he ate them. He became allergic to hay…that killed me. I hated that he could not have hay when we traveled to shows. I am an only child, and he was my brother. It is so nice to read that other people knew and loved him! There is so much I can share. We used to go on trail rides together…alone. I was very young, no older than 10. I remember riding to the beach bareback and going swimming with him. On our way we would stop at the local ice cream stand, and I would purchase 2 vanilla cones, one for him and one for me. Geeze, it was hard to get back on him without a saddle! I have pictures of him! I am not sure how to share them, but I will try. The ones you shared 13 years ago will not open… He was roughly 13.3 hands (medium), chestnut, gelding, with a white blaze and socks. I may be talking into the wind, but that is OK. Somehow writing this makes me feel like I am closer to him…I can almost hear his whinny.
Below you will see a link that should go to a photo of HP and I. I was roughly 11 or 12 (ignore my knees, my trainer would have screamed at me…HA!). This photo was taken around 1987…? He was a “push buttom pony” with perfect conformation. Even with my knees, I typically placed in the top 3.
Smiling through my tears. I hope one of you reads this. Please let me know if you were talking about my pony. THANK YOU!
Oh, my goodness. How cool that you connected to this post after all this time!
I remember the Zim ponies, although I never had one. I haven’t heard that name on a pony in quite a while.
The one I have heard at a show recently after a long gap was a Farnley pony. I had not seen one of those for a long time. I’m guessing it was related somehow to all those ponies that used to show with that prefix on their names, although I don’t know that for a fact.
We used to have Farnley Gayfield, who was a wonderful pony. He gave many kids an excellent start in the show ring.
I would love to see your photo of Zims Hit Parade. I was also his owner…the time line is fuzzy because it was sooo many years ago. I was forced to sell him when my parents got divorced. I must have been 15 years old.??? It was traumatic. I remember being scared to see him at the end…the loss was too great for me to bear. I am now 48 years old and thinking about him still brings tears to my eyes. I wish I could have said “goodbye” to him. I stopped riding when my parents got divorced but to this day I still own my saddle. I miss riding so much, but I never returned. Thank you. -Julie
I am so sorry. I am new to this forum and I am having a tough time navigating it. Thank you so very much for writing me back. It’s OK that you didn’t know HP. It’s nice to read your sincere thoughts. I owned two other ponies as well but their names were not as unique (and their price tags were not as hefty) and I doubt I will be able to find others who knew them. I have been reading posts and it’s hard for me to relate because I was so young when I stopped riding. People have such a vast knowledge of barns across the US. The only knowledge I have is of my barn, Woodsong Farm in Brewster MA. I have faint recollections of other barns and riders from when I used to compete, but my memories are those of a child. Once again, thank you for taking the time to write me back. I live in Boston MA now and I have a very flexible work schedule. I really should find a farm somewhere near here. I miss having a horse in my life.
You might be surprised. People have long memories when it comes to horses and ponies they have known.
If you do Facebook, you can often find groups for members from different geographical areas or barns or eras, and many of those people remember the same places and ponies and horses.
And welcome to the BB!!
