You’d be surprised how many people have never heard of this issue
Interesting and sensible theory on diet JB but my 2 eat the exact same thing, go out together etc etc lead practically identical lives and only my gelding reacted horribly.
And they have different genetics And in the case of just 2, they’re more likely to be dissimilar, than similar. But when you have a bunch of horses (let’s say 5 or more), then (at least this is my thought process), the diet is usually more similar than the genetics are different. Ok, that still doesn’t sound like what I really want to say :lol: There are way more horses who don’t react, than who do. Just like people have a greater, or lesser sensitivity to caffeine, or sleep medications, horses will have different sensitivities to various things. And I’m sure that there must be diets which might make a horse (or person) more, or less, sensitive to that something. So it just got me thinking about the similarities between horses who are part of a larger herd, and where multiple (or majority) of horses react to this.
JB, In this case I’m going to consult the farrier. She just came yesterday and it’s 7 weeks until our next visit. She has a couple of horses scheduled next week, so I may see her then.
Why??? The Farrier??? Because our farrier has a Ph.D. in entomology.
DUDE! I was like :eek::uhoh::ambivalence::nonchalance: WHY are you going to talk to your FARRIER!
:lol::lol::lol:
But FWIW, and since I HAD to look, you do indeed have manure movers

I recall reading on one of the previous threads that it would cost Merial substantially more to reconfigure the carrier and get the product re-approved through the FDA than to pay out substantiated veterinary damages for a relatively small number of horses each year.
I recall first hearing about Zimecterin Gold and mouth ulcers in 2007. Definitely not new.
That would change over time if everyone who had a problem made Merial pay for the care.
The search box came back for me so I found the (original?) thread on this.
The oldest one I could find (2008): https://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/f…in-gold-sticky
I also looked for info on dung beetles in Maine. Apparently there are 7 different species in the blueberry fields. There is also something on Japanese beetles, but I haven’t seen many in my yard for several years. I used to put up traps for them. I’ve never seen nor heard anything about dung beetles so they must not be much of a problem. But I’ll still ask the farrier! :winkgrin:
Or if large numbers of people just stopped buying it.
EXACTLY I swear the vets/teaching horsepital were afraid to even whisper that the horse had just been dewormed with ZG even after they scoped him and found petichea (sp?) on the duodenum…to quote them “we never see petichea (sp?) on the duodenum” I asked if they were going to report it and made some calls myself to report the mouth reaction and subsequent weird colic and findings of the horsepital.
