I never wear my tall boots unless I show… which has been all of one time since owning my horse. My tall boots put bad zipper rubs on my saddle, which is only a year old. Is this apart of “breaking in” a new saddle? I feel like my boots may be a bit too tall, and the zipper sitting just a bit lower than fully done up. Has anyone else had this problem? Am I holding my leg incorrectly? Or is this an indication my boots aren’t fitting correctly height wise and I should get a new pair? Any insight is appreciated.
Can you post a picture of your tall boots? Most tall boots that I’ve ridden in have a zipper down the back which would be kind of hard to leave a rub on a saddle as you wouldn’t normally be making prolonged contact with the back of your calf. I ride in my tall boots every day and have never had them leave a zipper mark on any saddle. Do your boots have a zipper in a different place?
Do your tall boots have a zipper guard? It’s a bigger piece of leather at the top snap to stop this from happening. Some have another smaller piece to keep the zipper from falling down as well.
Nope!! Regular old tall boots, zipper up the back. Sergio grassi brand. I can get a picture tomorrow. I don’t think I ride particularly toed out either so I’m stumped.
Must confess I’ve never heard of this before… So, you can’t run your zipper all the way up and the tab is sticking out and marring your saddle? I don’t know how this could happen with a normal “back” zipper unless you’re turning your leg out and using the back of your calf rather than the side of it, which doesn’t seem right to me.
I should also add my winter boots, although a bit shorter than the tall boots, do not cause zipper rubs
That’s so strange. I don’t have Sergios but I have friends who do and I’ve never heard of them doing that.
I have seen flaps worn completely through by bad zippers. Get new boots!
