I keep seeing “show shirts” that are 1/4 zip. Is this a new trend? Are people really wearing shirts with zippers under coats?
Personally, I find them much more comfortable than the non-stretch, sweat absorbing cotton show shirts with buttons from my childhood. I think the 1/4 just works better with the technical fabric show shirts are made of these days. You can still easily wear a stock tie with the zipper - every shirt I have even has a buttoned loop at the back of the neck to help hold the stock tie in place!

I think it is far more common that you see shirts like the Essex Talent Yarn, where you have the technical fabric with the flap covering up the snaps on the quarter zip instead of an actual zipper. https://essexclassics.com/talent-yarn/

I was surprised to see a show coat at the weekend that zips under the buttons, what a stoke of genius, she looked awesome, no button gape at all.

The zipper under the button concept, for someone with boobs, is quite literally the best thing since sliced bread!! I’ll never wear another coat without a zipper.

Yep, I wear quarter zip shirts under my show coat more often than not nowadays. Does not look even the slightest bit different from the distance that most people look at you from (i.e. cantering around the ring).
