The ring is small at Fairfield…course asked a lot of questions - very very short turns out of the corner. A three to a three out of a corner where the first three was long and the second short… a bending line with a lot of striding options that caused a lot of distress… I braided a ton and was lucky to get to watch a few rounds - saw Ali go - she was phenomenal, so was Rebekah (I love her horse), Coco, Sophie. Hannah Patten nailed it, but had a rail at the first fence of the in and out (I don’t think it was her fault…the distance was great). You had to have a very adjustable horse and reallllllllly use the corners - there were many rides where it was clear lack of experience was the challenge - I didn’t see any (in the 20 or so I watched) that were totally outmatched - mostly the issues were with using the ring and having an adjustable and handy horse. I missed the flat, but they called back four groups of 12.
This was a really competitive group. 80ish. I wouldn’t want to ride that course in that tiny ring. Kentucky is going to be luxurious for them.
