$100,000 Equitation Class at WEC on 2/13/21, Video of Winner in Post 129

Boy, it’s turning out to be a late night for these kids. The class started four hours ago, and they still have the second round. And I know some of them were up early this morning to get in the ring. Hopefully they got a nap in at some point today.

If I had won that as a junior my mother would have taken it away from me, sold it, and used the funds to purchase a nice used Civic. I would have then driven that instead, and the remainder would have gone into savings. My mother is a very practical woman and I am grateful for her.

Those cash prizes are one hell of an incentive for trainers to bring their equitation kids here.

I’ll say. I’m thinking there was a big convoy up from Wellington.

And I love the wild card draw for a good chunk of prize money.

I don’t see as many kids as I would have imagined would schlep up for that kind of prize. I was kind of surprised at the entry list- unless they closed entries early.

I think that’s a really nice feature.

Post COVID there will probably be many more.

I believe stalls for the whole circuit sold out in a hurry. So maybe some people got closed out.

He’s still got it!!

Yeah, but I was thinking about the barns that were already south for the winter- where the kids had already traveled. Given the prize money, I was expecting bigger contingents from some of the farms that are here.

I think that one’s going to have it until the day HE says otherwise, and nobody will be able to convince him otherwise. May we all live lives so very sure of ourselves.

He’s one heck of a horse.

I was disappointed that they weren’t announcing scores as they went; I was all set to judge along and see how I did! Judging by the flat groups, i was way off between the first two groups. Smoothed out in the second two.

There were a handful of really good trips, and then there were some kids who really looked like they were overfaced right from the ingate.

Two things I noticed - 1) a LOT of snaffles as opposed to pelhams! 2) a pretty good number of safety vests, both inflatable and otherwise.

I feel bad for these kids, trainers, and grooms as well. It’s a late late night for them. The GP in Wellington started an hour and a half after this class, and it finished nearly half an hour ago.

Once again, plenty of course here.

I mostly feel bad for the horses. The humans have some say in the hours they keep. The horses can’t have a mid-afternoon Starbucks.

Yes - I really like that they’re not finishing on the hand gallop fence but instead have what looks like a bit of a quiet line to combination at the end. Can you go for broke without your horse getting unbroke?

Alston just did.

Please, no spoilers! I’m planning to watch that next.

I tried to watch both at once, but it was too much. Lol.

Yes. Speaking of good experienced equitation horses! I’m a fan of Canny Windsor Z.
