2011 FOAL ANNOUNCEMENTS HERE
Crikey that blue-eyed chap is very furry!

That got me thinking…

What makes some foals come out hairy like that? I’m sure it must be a bit to do with breed (heavy draught types are often very hairy as newborns) but what about gestation length? Sometimes very early foals have ultra smooth soft coats. Climate? Region? Season? Latitude? Genes?

This year I had a warmblood (Prestige VDL) that was a bit yakkish when born. He had hairy wrinkles arching over his forehead (I take this as a sign of a horse with a coarse-ish coat as an adult, but I may be way off track here!). They look like water ripples. The next foal (2 days later), a TB, came out smooth and fine coated. Now, at nearly 3 months old, the warmblood is fluffy and fried and trying really hard not to moult his foal coat. The TB is smooth, shiny, and nearly all moulted out.

And now back to the cute foal photos!..
Maybe it’s like human babies? Like some babies are born with a full head of hair and some only have a little? I was born with a lot of hair and I have very thick hair now, so maybe there is a correlation?

My mare, Donna Castania surprized us with an early Benidetto filly, yesterday. Not too early though, because she is up and at em, trying her new legs in bouncing across the stall.
IgG was very high, so all is right in the world.
She is a bay, with 4 stockings and a large shield shaped marking on her forehead.

As with older sis, ahe is correct and very feminine, and although Belissima is a beauty, this one will give her a challenge.

She is very friendly and curious, she follows me to check on what I’m doing.

I am very happy with the cross between Donna Castania (Don Crusador/Wonderland) and Benidetto.
Now to come up with a “B” name for a filly.
Peg

Peg, she sounds precious! Pictures pleeeeeeeze!!

So we have had 3 more foals since the last time I posted.

Ruba Mai Ye (Rousseau X Dinard L-Rubinstein I) owned by my workers had a Falsterbo Filly on 3/6 at 6:30 pm. She is bay with a small star and one hind sock. She is a really a beautiful type and she is the first Falsterbo for the year! Fleur de Lis APT

Dream Girl GCF (Don Cavallo X Akatschi-Dynamo) had a Bonheur Colt on 3/9 at about 11 pm. He is a chestnut with a star and one hind sock. This is her first foal and she is being an excellent mom and Bronze Star is so friendly! Bronze Star GCF

EM Greta Garbo (Grand Cru X Acapulco-Cavalier) had a Daddy Cool colt last night at about 11:15 pm. He is a bay with a star, snip and 2 hind socks. He is a big boy but very handsome! Can’t wait to see him move. Greta received two 10’s on her jumping in her MPT but ridden Dressage and Daddy Cool won both his dressage and jumping portions of his SPT. So we are excited for this one. Pictures to follow soon!

Next one due is Sparkle one of our Connemara mares in foal to Falsterbo. She is due 3/18 but looks like she will be taking her time.

Surprise, surprise not only was our Canturo foal six days early, but it was a filly (Fetal sexed as a colt at 60 days). This foal was two years in the making and we are just thrilled to have a filly for our herd!

Born March 9th, Sakura Hill Cantanita (Canturo x Ulysses M2S x Olympic Ahorn)

Also took some new photos of our Callaway 4 x Kaiser de la Cour filly, Sakura Hill Kallanica. Born January 27th:

That Calloway filly is a little tanker! SO cute!!! Course, I LOVE her daddy. Can you still get semen for him? I don’t know where he went from Debbie’s.

The other filly is lovely - and just goes to prove my vet’s theory that fetal sexing is right about 50% of the time!

She certainly is solid!

Callaway 4 (Calando I x Deadly Nightshade xx) was sold to Augustin Walch and has the Holsteiner Approvals in his future. We will certainly be using him in future.

And yes, that’s twice now that dear Ahsianita has fooled two different vets. First with colt Wyoming (by Willemoes) who was supposed to be a filly, now with Cantanita (by Canturo), who was supposed to be a colt!

I have given up guessing what kind of coat will come out. I have seen long coats on dysmature foals and short coats on dysmature foals. I have seen shaggy dog coats in winter and what looks like too light in winter but it was fine…like the foal/mare knew winter was over. I do tend to see the lightest coats on hot bloods like Arabs and TBs as if they have a hotter furnace but I have also had wool coats in June and the poor foal was dying until we clipped her. It was wet underneath. Quality of coats vary from long guard hairs to thick plush to silky. I wonder if this mix mash is due to adding hot blood to natives…not that it gives shorter coats as my big RID mare has the shortest coat with the least feathers and no bother about the weather…but it confuses the genetic directions. PatO

The dam of Monica’s filly, Ahsianita m2s, is a half-sister of Wang Chung m2s, my 8-year-old stallion that last Friday won Bronze in the German Championship of State Champions (1.50 m.) with Felix Hassmann.

In addition Ahsianita m2s has two other half-siblings that are international showjumpers.

Garner Creek - your Falsterbo filly gives me palpatations. Just adorable!!

Congratulations everyone!

I am excited to announce the arrival of our Zirocco Blue X Joy (Jupiter) colt. He was born last night. He is a big, well muscled boy who seems to have a great temperament. I hope to breed Joy back to Zirocco - looks like a grey theme for this year’s stallions!
Photos are at 12 hours of age - they are public on Facebook:
Zirocco Blue colt

Now at 362 days for the Numero Uno mare! She was bred a month before Joy…

He’s got some bone can’t re-!

Can’t re - he is quite the beautiful strong looking boy.
I love these baby pictures (like an early spring).
Keep them coming.

I’m so glad to see him; I am planning on breeding a mare to Zirocco Blue this year and am glad to be able to see another baby. He is a big, gorgeous guy! Congrats!

Thank you! He is a big boy and I am very pleased with him. I am hoping to breed Joy back to Zirocco if I can find some semen. PM’s welcome.

Woot! Woot! Another baby boy born. This one is an ET foal from Dominique (Don Schufro/ Rohdiamant) who is now an Elite Mare, by Walnut Farm’s lovely Benidetto (Bellissimo M/ Cordoba). :D:D:D:D:D Chestnut baby boy has chrome up the wazoo and is very long legged and elegant. Pics when he has started to unfold. I need a B name.

Also, Wolkenstanza (Dominique’s half sis by Wolkentanz I) was just bred for an ET and was kind enough to double ovulate. So, I am hoping like mad to flush two Fidertanz embryos next week. How about some jingles for that?

Congrats! Is that Benidetto’s first colt? I keep hearing about everyone’s fillies by him!
