2012 Breeders Cup

Race 9

Are you kidding me - Arlington Million’s winner, Little Mike?!!! He pulls that race victory off? Wow. I had Shug/Phipps runner Point of Entry and Barbados rum maker ‘St. Nicholas Abbey’ with O’Brien in this one. Damn.

Props to Dale Romans, Ramon and Little Mike. Course tied record and setting BC record for the distance.

Yay! Fort Larned, my second choice for the Classic, won, and my favorite, Richard’s Kid, made his usual last-minute drive to finish fifth for a little purse money. He also finished ahead of Game On Dude, which made me happy.

I cant help but think that Chantal must be happy…

The interview with Rosie N. regarding Shanghai Bobby was interesting. Like the announcer, I thought he was exhausted when he slowed up in the stretch, but she explained that he gets lost if he’s too far in the lead and that once he saw He’s Had Enough she was able to get him interested in running. That was impressive to see him dig in and win. Such a baby. Cute.

I found it interesting that very few of the Favourites actually won… I think it was 4? Either way, yay for the underdogs

Rosie is a very gifted rider. It is most difficult to encourage a “hanger” to keep running. He was almost to a crawl. If you are too forceful, horse will focus on that, but she only did what she had to do…which is part of being an instinctive rider. How much or how little. …fine line. Not all riders have that ability.

I thought the mile was a great race. Wise Dan with his course record and Animal Kingdom certainly looking like he is ready to continue on. The Classic was so exciting. I had a great 2 days of race watching.

Fort Larned earned a 117 Beyer speed figure for his win in the Classic.
