Thank you, I just said the same thing on a FB group–I don’t think he’s even off, I think they just took a hard, honest look at what they were up against and realized a mid-pack finish was the best they could hope for (the way he looks, Chrome would eat him alive, who knows what Found might do on dirt, and Arrogate has DEFINITELY matured and is working perfectly). If he got blown out of the water they best they could hope for is $25k.
Adding to the Found confusion, apparently there’s a rumor going around at the track (and in European betting pools) that she’s going to the Turf instead of the Classic. It’s going to be interesting to see where she finally ends up when the Turf is drawn this afternoon. (You can watch it live at Breederscup.com, the first session is at 4p.m. ET)
Nice horse, but I agree with everyone who is saying “40K?” There are whole lot of horses out there for that money.

Someone pointed at that you can go to City Zip for $40,000. I’d much rather go that route than Nyquist at that price.
Found is in the Turf and drew post 10. Ryan Moore picked her over stablemate Highland Reel.
We’re lucky 13! (Not a joke, we’re pleased.)
And I can’t blame Found’s connections–opting for your first start on dirt to be the Classic against Chrome and Arrogate? Sure, she has nothing whatsoever to prove on grass and a win will just show that’s still true, but the BC would NOT be where I’d like to find out if a horse likes a new surface.
I’m actually a little surprised that when they decided not to enter Found in the Classic that Highland Reel didn’t take that spot (they gave him a pre-entry in the race last week). He had a lot more to gain going there then Found would have. If he ran well, his value would go up and if he lost, it’d just be brushed off as another Galileo not liking the dirt. They haven’t been afraid to try it before with stallion prospects, sometimes it works (Johannesburg [in Juvie], Giant’s Causeway and Declaration of War for example) and sometimes it doesn’t (Galileo and Gleneagles, ect).
I can’t wait for Friday & Sat!! Some of the races look to be real good chess games, with opening positioning making a big play.
Regardless of who crosses the line first, I hope they all come home safe & sound.
The Turf as well is shaping up to be a good race with the likes of Found, Flintshire, Ectot, Highland Reel (and yes, Metaboss but at higher odds and yes, the long shot does occasionally pull off the surprise).
I’m just starting to dig into the entries’ pedigrees and Praise lets everyone know how cool she is in the first Breeders’ Cup race of the weekend with both her sons Congrats and Flatter (full brothers) have entries in the Juvie Turf.
Oh, I think we know Found and Flintshire are the ones to beat, and Highland Reel. I don’t think Ectot belongs on that list, though–he’s only got a shot if half the field scratches AND it rains. That was clearly a toss for Flintshire, who’s not going to have to deal with Belmont’s grass as an off surface here. That was a freak situation, not a statement on Flintshire. I’m curious as to whether opting for the Turf is a statement about their lack of confidence in Found on grass, or a lack of confidence in Highland Reel being able to take Flintshire so they want her in there. I fully expect those three to be closer odds by post time and pretty much everyone else to be even longer than the morning line.
And of course it’s a new surface…we know we like it, Ashleyluvsugar likes it…it’s kind of weird, though. We’ll see what Found thinks of this one, though of the big three I would think she’s the one most likely to not care about details!
Ectot is a serious horse, he won six straight in France including 4 group stakes (incl. BC winner Karakontie), but I don’t think he’ll like the California turf. I actually think Reel has a better chance than Found because he’s shown he loves shorter turf (Hong Kong and Australia tracks play more fast American than European). From the Americans (outside of Flintshire), I think Da Big Hoss can play a part in the race but think he’d like it better if the race was longer.
Metaboss out after sustaining a small sesamoid fracture during routine gallop this morning on SA’s turf course

Sorry to hear about Metaboss, danceronice. I hope he has a quick and uncomplicated recovery and a successful second career.

Saw that come across the ticker tape. So sorry for you & all the connections.
Hopefully the rest of the BC continues without any further injury reports.

Mersad said something about him standing at stud but obviously he’s got to work on that since it wasn’t planned. I assume somewhere in California. We don’t have breeding rights AFAIK so not really my business unless he’s sold, in which case we’d get a percentage. At least we’ve got Arly on the Friday undercard. Just an AOC and he’s a gelding, but he does make money. (And it would be nice if he’d win for his jockey; he’s new at SA.)
Nice ride by the exercise rider, who pulled him up instantly. Phil gave major credit to Jose today for that.
Good luck in your race on Friday. Even with the bad news today, I’d imagine there’s still a bit of a thrill having a horse run on a Breeders’ Cup day even if it isn’t a BC race.
It is going to be very interesting to see how the Europeans do.

Lots of intriguing handicapping this year.
Europeans have done really well at Santa Anita so not sure their four presumed disadvantaged hold any weight (which they kind of admit farther down in the article).
Another one out. Lord Nelson out of the Sprint due to cut on RF that got infected
Looking forward to 2 good days of racing
