2016 Kentucky Derby & Oaks . . .

Just around the corner and it seems the chat is still about AP and CALIFORNIA CHROME. Don’t know about anyone else but I am ready to move on.

Here is the daunting prep schedule and a list of possibles.

Hey, Shammy? That’s for starting this tread and maybe babysitting it a little. Time we had an official replacement for Glimmerglass.

Thanks Shammy…

The next 6 months will be interesting for sure! I’m thinking Nyquist at the moment (but we have a long way to go) and Songbird (I think her name is) is looking like a sharp filly for the Oaks…

I’ll miss seeing AP on the track. It will be interesting to see what he is able to pass on to his offspring. I am sure his “partners” are being chosen with extreme care for a very nice first year stallion.

Chrome, for me, never did much other than me thinking he was a sharp looker… I was over him a long time ago

Here’s a dated article to get us thinking.

What’s a Nyquist? Nyquil laced with amphetamines? Makes ZEV sound like a no brainer. What going on? Our education system is the pits. We can’t even get a TC champion’s name spelled correctly.

How about this warm weather? If this keeps up derby patrons and connections will show up in bikinis and speedos. The bikinis I can deal with but Dale Romans in speedo might be a little too much.

Oaks prep schedule.

Nyquist is named after Red Wings hockey player Gustav Nyquist. I think it was mentioned during the BC broadcast.

Thanks. I have now learned that ZEV was named for a Colonel Zeverly, a friend of ZEV’S owner Harry Sinclair.

At this point the futures betting is staying with NYQIST. JMHO but that will probably curse the colt.

Although I think it’s been done previously there is winner’s sire betting also.

Here is some interesting thinking. Anyone else think the filly SONGBIRD has derby potential?

This is some site.

Rank #458 Not So Quiet Man came in 8th in a MCL at Aqueduct AND he was still ranked higher than 4 other horses!

Love it. How can anyone possibly rank almost 500 two year olds?

I love Songbird but I’d like to see her in the spring prep races and see if she continues to run strong against the fillies before I’d pit her against the boys

Nyquist yes one to keep an eye on but we still have 5 months to go…

NYQUIST and SONGBIRD both gearing up for February debuts.

For me, looking forward to both debuts as a 3 YO but also afraid to get too excited and jinx their careers

Let the preps begin. The first is upon us.

Gus Nyquist is a heck of a hockey player.

Also, there is a “Nyquist Frequency” = the minimum rate at which a signal can be sampled without introducing errors, which is twice the highest frequency present in the signal.

Here is the Equibase analysis of today’s Gr3 Jerome.

So are we looking towards another TC champion in this crop?

Ten points a piece. Flexibility in the Jerome and Forever Darling in the Santa Ynez run to form.

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/96870/flexibility-flexes-his-muscles-in-the-jerome

Both good races. I’m less charmed with Pretty n’ Cool and more charmed with Forever Darling, she ran a nice race. Not sure she can holdup to Songbird but plenty of time to see how things shake out.

Flexibility ran a good race. Will be interesting to see if he continues to be pointed to the Derby. I thought I heard mention that Nyquist might end up being targeted at mile races…

So much fun this early in the season to conjecture on what might happen further on down stream

What happend to Glimmerglass??
