I too read this tonight for the first time and found it helpful. You are the kind of horsewoman that I aspire to be, OP.
Sorry to hear this but may he RIP.
Interested to hear about the results because this story reminds me of a friends horse who has very similar behavior under saddle but only occasionally.
Just to be complete and so I share the final answers that the post mortem of Lunar afforded… we got the answers from the necropsy tonight.
Here’s what it says:
“…aside from the tendon lesion, we did see some mild degenerative changes in the brain that weren’t a “slam dunk” diagnosis for EDM since there were no spinal cord lesion we should concurrently see with EDM (well not in the right location). We did see some pretty severe degenerative changes in the 1st sacral segment of the spinal cord, which sometimes we see in older horse- so it’s tough to interpret its clinical significance. There were also some changes in the pituitary gland which could have been clinically silent or could have caused signs compatible with PPID.”
I mean, the brain degeneration really solidified that we could not really ever get him happy in any riding life. But he was good on the ground.
Very grateful for the knowledge.
