Not quite the same, but long ago a friend’s mare had twins! They knew she was pregnant, but the twin was hiding. They had to have ā€œGā€ names so the big girl was named Gemini, and the little girl was G.A. Bonus.

Bonus would be a cute name. Perhaps Bonnie as a call name.

How about Cleverly Concealed? Barn name Connie or CeeCee? Glad everything has worked out for you (thus far, aside from the wildly unexpected vet bills!!!)

You all are AWESOME. You have given me a lot to think about!

We had some major flooding today after a night of heavy rain, but Jesse and baby were both going bonkers cooped up. So they got a bit of time in the big pasture, which was the only field that wasn’t under several inches of standing water. Seeing her coat in the light, I’m about as positive as you can ever be that she didn’t get the grey gene.

OMG I am in love with her!! Good momma Jessie too, how very much like an old campaigner to make not a single fuss about IDK, being heavily pregnant.

I am such a huge sucker for a bay with a big star. I agree with you on these pictures she doesn’t look like she got the grey gene.

Oh I am in love with both momma and baby. <3

What a cute baby! Does she pace already? Hope you’re getting some drier weather now too. Sun is out here and I’m so over all the rain.

@scrbear11 how is your mare? Hope you’re surviving the busy season!

My filly is doing great. I’m so impressed by how friendly and trainable she is. She is the most personable foal I’ve been around for sure. She is growing like a weed and is just massive. I don’t know where the size comes from, both parents are normal sized and I don’t know of any real height lurking on either side of the pedigree, virtually everyone with data available is in the 16.1-16.3 hand range, but we’ll manage her carefully as she grows. Maybe she’ll normalize as she gets older too and she’s just a big baby but will be a normal sized horse. Then again, my biggest horse (sticked a true 17.3 hands, USEF measured), was out of my 16.1h on a tall day jr hunter and by a 16.3 hand stallion so… who knows.

My mare is going to the clinic for breeding next week and I’m crossing my fingers and holding my breath. Last year was so easy with using a fresh, local stallion and her being able to be bred at the farm I was at. This year she is somewhere else so she has to go and stay at the vet clinic, we’re using frozen, and there are so many extra costs with shipping her, shipping the semen, board at the clinic, etc. that I’m sure this year is going to end up taking a bunch of tries.

So hoping scrbear11’s silence is because she is busy with a new healthy baby & mama. Getting worried about them!

Ditto hoping everything is okay with @scrbear11 and her mare.

On my ride home I was thinking about names. Since you(Texarkana) were involved in organizing the paver for our late WheresMyWhite, I started thinking… how about Where’s My Grey, barn name Flora or Vera? Ties into some of us hoping for a grey, COTH, and an amazing good deed you did for not just Jessie, but COTH.

@weixiao we need pictures!!! I’m so glad she is doing well. Good luck at the clinic. I am so glad I’m not dealing with that at the moment.

@beowulf That’s a great idea! I had thought about naming her Where’s my white but someone pointed out when we were organizing that it could be warped into something racial. Where’s my grey is a lot safer! I am so indecisive with names. You all have given me too many good ideas to ponder now.

Oh, and @weixiao asked if she paces… sort of? She gets lateral at times but mostly gallops around like a spider monkey with those crazy legs. They only got about 20 min outside today while I cleaned their stall because it never stopped raining today. FWIW, mom was a pacer with a very good racing career, but I almost never see her pace in the field, she trots or canters everywhere.

I tried to upload a video but it’s not working. I’ll have to upload it to YouTube or similar.

Sorry I dropped off the Earth.

Bee is home! She came home Tuesday. She is now stable. Her bloodwork has improved with the new antibiotics, kiddo is still swimming around with a solid heartbeat, BUT her placenta is now showing changes consistent with placentitis. We are now at Day 323, but the vets are still thinking the foal may not be viable, or will likely have severe challenges. A red bag foaling is guaranteed. At least I can be prepared for that. Happy to have my girl home at the very least.

Weirdly - input/advice here appreciated - Last Tuesday before going to Marion Dupont her ph dropped to 6.4. She also looked as though she would foal, everything very relaxed and lose. Cervial exam showed a nice smushy cervix, but not yet dilated. The drop in ph combined with her crap bloodwork and overall lackluster appearance warranted the emergency trip to Leesburg. Now that she’s home, her milk/serum ph is back up to 8-ish. She did receive domperidone prior to the ph drop on Tuesday as my vets were planning for a very early foal. (That was likely a mistake in hindsight, but we won’t get into that). Is it possible the vets in Leesburg really did ward off an abortion/very early foaling? And now her body is ā€œback to normalā€? It’s just weird. I’m certainly not using ph as a reliable measure of her being imminent.

@scrbear11 I’m so sorry for the complications. I am happy to hear she’s home and didn’t have a too early foal!

Bee’s situation is very similar to what happened to Jesse except I think whatever infection she got came along late term, probably with the stress of shipping cross country at ~ 330 days. Her pH dropped down to 6.8 then to 6.2 right as we were starting antibiotics. She had a relaxed vulva, was waxing, and showing every sign. After she was on SMZs a few days pH came back up and she hung there for 3 more weeks. I think the treatment warded off her foaling before baby was quite ready, though I can’t say that for sure.

My breeder friend, who is more than just a breeder- she does mare care, teaches repro courses, etc. says Ca and pH arent accurate when dealing with placentitis.

Lots of good thoughts for Bee and baby!

Sending lots of jingles for Bee! At least she is within the ā€œnormalā€ foaling window now and feeling better.

As you said, milk testing is not likely to be reliable for you at this point, after her receiving domperidone (is she still on it?). What makes your vets feel the foal is not viable? The condition of the placenta, or…? I hope she surprises you and them on that point!
