2022 Foal Watch?

Awww, love the baby’s cute big old furry ears!

You bred her 5 days ago? How do you know she is even in foal? If you want to try to flush an embryo you would do that on day 7 so still possible but you have to get busy. Normally you would have been preparing at least one mare to synch with her cycle but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Good luck!

So glad you have a lovely filly. Happy too that you didn’t get this;

Do they pay 2X the stud fee for twins?

Glad to see them both strong and healthy.

@Texarkana your foal is adorable and the mare looks like such a sweetheart. How wonderful.

For a TB, you do not. Twins are very rare in TBs because mares are usually scanned at 16, 30, and 45 days and if twins are detected on the first check, one is pinched.

It would be very unusual for both twins to be healthy or robust enough to race, though there was a case in West Virginia a few years ago where that happened. Most times neither twin will grow up to become a racehorse so twin TBs are not considered to be a benefit.

Jesse and baby (who is still nameless- anyone got any ideas?) were discharged this evening!

It was after dark and raining when we got home, and my barn light isn’t the best for photos.

Little girl is spunky! It’s hard to get decent pics between the lighting, the shadows, and the fact that when she’s up she’s moving nonstop. In the bad barn light, it’s looking like she will stay bay.

Poor girls might be cooped up for a couple days because we are supposed to get deluged with rain. I don’t think they are appreciating their downgraded stall size. Baby is still pretty lax behind and could really use some turnout.

Jeeze I didn’t like that song at all! Oh well, as the colloquialism goes “it takes all kinds to make a world”.

If only their stars remained the same after they reached maturity, I’d call her Bull’s Eye.

However with a nod to her heritage, the many combinations of Midnight ,Treacherous, Fascination, Captain, etc… make for many possibilities.

I’d be tempted by Captain Fantastic. Ladies do earn the rank of Captain as well as gentleman.

Then again, I’ve always thought that Roll Over Hanover would be a great name, but I don’t have to show up at the track and own it. :blush:

Texarkana, I’m still boggled by the fact that you expected a riding horse and ended up with a foal. Since you didn’t get what you initially wanted I hope this all turns out to be a wonderfully fun adventure for you. And that you are able to easily register her. Please keep the pictures coming. :slight_smile:

How CUTE!?! I will trade you three of my surprise kittens for this little foal, deal or no deal :joy:

I love Jessie’s Girl also. I would totally be the type to pick a name that makes light of this situation, given you adopted what we assumed was a nice future riding partner and got not one, but TWO… How about Package Deal? It doesn’t have the same sentimental ring to it though. What kind of names do you like?

I love Rick Springfield and all, but I’m not sure we need 2 Jesses on the farm. Haha.

I like Stow Away but can’t come up with a good barn name to go with it (I had a horse named Stowey in the past so not wanting to go there). I really like it when the barn name makes sense with the registered name, so I’m making this unnecessarily difficult here. I was leaning towards all sorts of similar terms: Veiled, Ensconced, Cache, etc. but none of them seem quite right. While I would normally play off the sire or dam, I don’t care for most of what I come up with using “Captain” or “Midnight” and BC’s Jesse doesn’t give me a lot to work with. Plus it also has to be an available name through USTA, and they don’t make it quite as easy to check that.

@scrbear11 How is Bee???

There’s always BOGO for a barn name. Or Twofer.

Sorry to be so corny!

I legit considered BOGO! :joy:

I was thinking Bogo too… what with the ‘Package Deal’… Or could do ‘Aggregation’ and name her Aggie.

But Wait, There’s More
Matryoshka
Russian Doll

You could always pull from the Trojan horse story, too.
