That’s my bad math lol. I know for sure that she was due on March 3rd.
Come on, Delia! Don’t torture poor @cripplecreekfrm, please.
My palomino girl is holding a 34 mm follicle with waning edema as of 9 am Central time today (reminder - she still had a CL remnant 48 hours ago!). Semen was collected at 10 am Pacific time today and should theoretically be on the way by now, though I haven’t yet received a tracking number. Sydney (palomino) is Arielle’s daughter, and Arielle usually ovulates at <40 mm. So, in less than two days, my vet and I have flipped from thinking Sydney wouldn’t ovulate in time to be bred on this cycle to worrying that she’ll go before the semen can get here! Mares…never a dull moment.
A friend of mine has a Redwine daughter at 317 days today who is waxed and dripping milk. I went and checked on her earlier, and I will be shocked if she hold off another 24 hours. It’s early but not crazy early, so I’m crossing my fingers that things go well and on standby, since my friend is out of town and her husband (experienced with foaling) is flying solo tonight. I’m honestly happy for anything that can keep me distracted at this point!
I have an excel sheet to calculate dates. Handy.
@Sparrowette, it looks like she’s starting to bag up (I’m assuming that, as a maiden, she normally has no udder development). How is her tone around her tail head? Vulva? Her belly doesn’t look particularly dropped to me, but (a) maidens don’t generally show as dramatically as multiparous mares and (b) she’s pretty much the exact opposite body type from my super compact/short-backed Arab mares, which is throwing my eye off more than a little!
Tail head area on each side is a bit “squishy”, I guess you call it but not like some I’ve looked at on YouTube. Vulva is starting to look a bit larger and softer. I thought that was healing from the Caslicks being taken out.
It sounds like she’s making slow but steady progress, then. I think she might keep you in suspense a while longer, though. Keep us posted, and good luck!
Much to my surprise, Sydney cooperated perfectly and ovulated over night after being inseminated yesterday! I guess she did read some of the textbook after all. She apparently goes just as quickly as her mother once she decides to grow a follicle. These mares are not easy on my anxiety!
Her mother Arielle continues to look as big as a house at day 275. She is starting to show some increased udder development, too, but I’m not concerned, since she started building before day 300 last year and didn’t foal until 379. Maybe she’ll go easy on me and foal in a more reasonable timeline this year? Maybe.
My friend’s Redwine mare did not foal while she was out of town, much to everyone’s surprise. I have a niggling feeling that something is up with her, but not my circus, not my monkeys…
My mare is at 349 days. Her belly looks dropped but her udders are still developing. I can’t even guess when she will have this baby. Maybe later this week? Ph is holding steady at 7.5. She’s getting crabby about having her udders touched. Has been rubbing her tail a lot. I gave her a bath today - she didn’t even want to roll afterwards. I am hoping she foals this week. She just looks so uncomfortable.
No foal over the weekend for me. Today is day 337 and her progression has seemed to come to a standstill. Delia is super crabby about her udders being messed with but she did get a bath and she loves the warm washcloth up there. She even held her leg out so I could get between her leg and udder better. All weekend she was perfectly happy and enjoying the extra food and grooming time. Today we have a major cold front coming through that will bring like 1+ inches of rain and a frost warning for tonight. With my luck this is when she will foal.
My mare is 334 today. “Rocktop Dreamer” (orestus x Flagmount king) is carrying a colt by Duke of Hearts xx. I’m dying to meet him. She bagged up two weeks ago and progression has been steady (relaxed vulva and tail head) but her ph is still 8…… so not anytime super soon. This has all been a relief as last year she suffered from placentitis and spent the last 6 weeks in the hospital. Luckily she foaled the most perfect filly regardless. This year we’ve monitored her CTUP and it’s been great so
We are soooo close to more babies!
379 DAYS!!! Oh my gosh… That’s just miserable!
Bee update… Day 333. Big bag, everything is loose. She’s extra large. Can’t scratch her itches. Is always hot. Extra hates bugs. The drama! Just not quite ready yet. I stop Regumate tomorrow. I imagine it won’t be long after stopping Regumate.
Well I wrote my post too soon lol. My mares pH was over 8 last night and is 6.8 this am. Let the foal watch commence!
Sending good baby watch vibes out to everyone waiting!
My mare was bred on Saturday. Fingers crossed she checks in foal and she and baby can come home soon!
Fingers crossed for a healthy delivery!!!
Would you believe my mare laid down and foaled this beauty 20 feet from where I was sleeping with not a peep. Mom and baby seem great
Congratulations!
