@4horses your mare is lovely. Hang in there. As has been said here many times, breeding horses is not for the faint of heart.
So glad to hear that your, and Texarkanaās foals seem to be turning the corner.
Iām so glad the news is good this morning!
What a lovely mare and foal.
Bogo is doing well, continuing to improve! The lameness is nearly resolved and her bouncy personality is coming back. Hopefully she will hold it together from here on out.
So happy to hear that!
I hope you win big bucks betting on the Derby to make up for your vet bills.
Picked my palomino princess up from the clinic this morning. She got bred Thursday night on a soft 39 mm follicle and had ovulated by yesterday morning. Lavage and new Caslick yesterday evening. My vet still wasnāt pleased with the semen (~35% motility and ~47% normal morphology), but the stallion owner says my girl is the only one heās shipped to all year who isnāt pregnant yet. At least she had NO fluid this cycle, unlike last time. With the weird persistent CL last cycle, Iām wondering if she was still in late transition last time. Fingers and toes crossed that we got it done this time around. Another two week wait beginsā¦
Arielle is at 295 days and increasingly miserable. Sheās never been a great grazer/hay eater, but sheās down to only about 10-12 pounds of hay (6 pounds of alfalfa and free-choice orchardgrass) per day. Iād prefer her to eat a lot more; at ~900 non-pregnant pounds, she should be eating more like 18 pounds of hay per day. But I think weāve reached the point where thereās just no room in her tiny self for more than that. Sheās on a grain that includes beet pulp, topped off by a timothy-based balancer, so at least sheās getting a bit more roughage that way. But I fear the next six weeks are going to be rough on both of us!
How is Gracie progressing, @Trak_Eventer? I need a good distraction for the next couple of weeks!
Canāt wait for more babies!!! Pretty mommas.
Love that name, too!
Thanks! We had a big Midwest storm with hail and everything the night she was born. Storm lasted all night until about 4 AM. About 10 mins after the storm ended, she was born!
Nice! A friend of mine had a colt born at midnight in a thunderstorm and they named him XXYY Midnight Magic
Iāve been officially on foalwatch as of Monday night.
Her milk unexpectedly went from thick, orange and sticky (Sunday evening) to runny and cloudy with a hint of yellow tinge Monday evening, so i tested it, and it tested at 6.2pH. So back to the barn i went to start foalwatch. Not much on the go Monday night, and i left at 3 am. Last night she was more agitated and restless, rubbing her butt all over the walls, shifting her weight constantly while standing and not lying down nearly as much. Also doing some weird squatting every now and then⦠we really thought sheād go last night, but around 2:30 she settled and ate some more and laid down, and was ānormalā until 4 am so i left at 4 (chore ppl were arriving at 5 this morning so i wasnāt concerned).
Reeeeally hoping she goes tonight!
Fingers crossed for a safe and healthy delivery, and then a nice long nap for you!
