2022 Foal Watch?

Waiting… waiting… waiting…

She is beyond ready and was dripping milk yesterday. And still nothing!

I’m just glad my stress is limited to anxiously checking my phone for an update and not sleepless nights. Sending her off was definitely the right decision for my sanity. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Fun filly antics while we all wait for Texarkana’s mare to foal.

Anything??

Nope. Argh!!!

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that while this seemed absolutely impossible 2 weeks ago when she was already waxing, she is waiting for the 27th of the month. My horses have a knack for this.

I came here to check in because we’re inching closer. 27th or bust!!

Darn, tell that mare that I get all excited bc I see that Texarkana has responded to this thread, but then am let down when I see that I have to wait some more until I get to see this descendant of The Booger Lady. An emotional roller coaster!

My mare is at 324 days. No bag yet so I’ll be waiting a bit longer.

Foal #8 is a filly, by Street Sense out of the maiden mare Comica. Comica has been not really doing much, bag going up and down, milk in the low 7s, until last night. She had a relatively full udder at dinner, and 10pm pH low 6. Still just 20 on the refractometer, so I wasn’t sure she would go last night (colostrum numbers are typically greater than 25, usually over 30). But at 6am she delivered a big healthy filly. Both sides of her pedigree are white-killers, so no shock that she has no markings, just a plain bay. She has a nice frame, though, and shows a lot of Street Sense quality.

Comica has been a good mother, though laying down a lot and being dramatic about how tired she is. 6am-7am is her typical sleep-flat-out REM time, and the baby interrupted that, lol. 351 days was a long wait, but at least she’s done!

Bodacious Barb is 320 days on Sunday, and has foaled at 342 and 349, so we should have a couple weeks break before the next one.

@EventerAJ congratulations! I love her hip and hind leg. She sure looks like a Street Sense.

She’s lovely.

@LaurieB Thanks! To be honest, I didn’t have much hope for what this mare would produce. She is a partnership mare, and thus how she ended up with Street Sense, but she isnt my type of horse. She came to us in early January pretty thin, and has struggled to put on weight. It doesn’t help she has an old stifle injury, that got worse as she got heavier…she seems much more comfortable now 150lbs less belly!

I am pleasantly surprised how nice this filly is…Street Sense really improved the mare.

Congrats @EventerAJ!

Jesse is day 364 today (I had originally misread her breeding date if you’re keeping track). Sigh. Every horse I have owned long term has been born on the 27th of the month, which has been such a weird coincidence. Maybe lightning will strike yet again. I sure hope she doesn’t go any later than the 27th!

@EventerAJ You’re lucky to have a Street Sense (as I’m sure you know) and that’s a nice one. SS is currently one of the hottest TB stallions around.

@Texarkana what a funny coincidence. I hope it holds true again!

And here I was thinking I liked what little you were showing of Comica. This will sound very weird but I am sure horse people understand --the conformation her legs remind me so much of my best horse, who passed away unexpectedly almost 10 years ago. I will never forget every bump, splint, or shape of his legs - he was my first 3DE partner and I spent a lot of time running my hands up and down his legs after XC day. Her legs look just like his especially in the front.

@Texarkana, I am choosing to be optimistic that you will have a foal this weekend!

I was optimistic we would have a foal last weekend.

I know mares go over 365 days often enough, but I certainly haven’t had too many who have, and those came with complications.

My mare went 379 days last year for NO REASON AT ALL. Sigh. She’d had three foals previous to then, all “around” 340 days, according to the previous owner (I know the 2018 one - the last one before last year - was at 339 days, because I bought that one en utero before I bought the mare). She started bagging up before day 300, got to the “ehh, she could probably go in a few days” point at day 330…and then just SAT THERE for six weeks. I’m sure your mare isn’t reading THAT particular playbook, but I do feel your pain.

My mare is at day 252 today.

Let’s hope they aren’t comparing notes. That must have been brutal.

Her former owner didn’t provide a ton of details. I can surmise from her USTA produce record that she hasn’t historically been going over 365 days just based on foaling and breeding dates. But she wasn’t managed like a pregnant horse this time around, so she and the foal hopefully are just playing a bit of catch up. I’ve been kind of jittery about this birth and her going long isn’t helping quell that nervous feeling.
