2022 Kentucky Three Day Event

Someone needs to explain to the video crew that its not just about the legs - would love to see toplines AND legs vs just legs.

Yup… Big atmosphere, tension, excitement… Tension can make for uneven steps. They are also extremely fit athletes, they will have wear and tear and/or past injuries, and they can be totally healed from them but never have the same degree of flexion in that body part again – and that will come out in higher levels of work like collection. My guess is some people with sharp eyes see that and think actute lameness, when it very well may just be that horse’s way of movement post-healing.

I noticed yesterday a ton of the horses were wringing out their hocks at the walk. I’m thinking we’re seeing the results of hard work on their bodies versus acute injury.

(Tangent: I have a gelding that had a full DFFT rupture with suspensory involvement before we got him. Ultrasounds show it is, miraculously, fully healed. However, he will never have full ROM in that leg because of the scar tissue and loss of elasticity… but we know it doesn’t bother him because he moves the same with blocks, and does not react to palpitation or flexion.)

Agreed on these points. Also a lot of the horses tense for the transition so they may tighten in the back and it changes the stride length or footfall.

HAHAHAH OMG I never even thought. So great. Great ride for Brandon, who has produced that horse himself.

I didn’t see the whole thing, but I love that horse. And so nicely ridden.

I want to acknowledge how much I’m benefitting from these quick nuggets and observations on the rides. I am too busy this week to watch it all, so you all have been super helpful in that I can quickly zip through the recording and find Mississippi’s feet, the big red horse that was coming out of her skin, and Elisa’s pretty ride. I am sure you’re all doing the same today.

Anyway - thank you!!

She doesn’t have spurs on…aren’t they mandatory or did they change that?

Dammit - between my commute to my pain doc’s office (and now waiting for my procedure) I am missing SO many rides :confounded:

Why do all the volunteers walk with their hands behind them, as if they were under arrest?

And what has become of Luke, Boyds’ named Olympic horse?
