Has a TD ever checked to see whether Jung has his legs tied to his girth? Or maybe velcro? Or magnets?
I think Jung does have the perfect combination of skill and physics … being a smaller guy, he can more easily stay in the middle of the horse than a taller or heavier man, but he’s stronger than a woman of similar proportions.
I saw Doug’s posting that Quinn is stepping down. I missed what happened on course though? Love Quinn and look forward to seeing Courtney. Have some fun. This horse is amazing!
The horse that was down was caught up in his tack and panicked and is now up on his feet and fine. I think that’s an important reminder that having people blabbing off about things that they don’t know before there’s an official report is not helpful in any way. Someone on this thread even posted that they thought the horse broke its neck. What you call transparency is just rampant speculation about what happened and why, while the horse’s team and vets are working at getting actual answers and getting those answers back to the officials, who then release a statement.
I wonder too if the several years of no spectators has caused a few of these horses to come into the combinations more distracted than the riders and course designer expected? I saw a few in both the 4* and the 5* that just never seemed to put their eye where they needed to go.
I never stated it was a fact, no matter how you twist it. I’m not the rider whose gorgeous grey was dangerous all over the place today. I speculated based on his impact point and speed and I won’t apologize for it.
I hope they both learn from how effing lucky they got today. Effing LUCKY.
What an incredibly long and successful career Quinn has had at the top of the sport! Speaks volumes to the care he has received and the soundness in his pedigree. His sire, Windfall, is still sound and being ridden at 30. I saw Windfall in March, and he is looking just as bright-eyed as ever! Incredible horses. #gomooseorgohome
I’m trying to avoid any spoilers reading the thread as I had to deal with an injury today and can’t find the entire XC replay - is it not on USEF Network? All I see are the US Top 5 rides and 4* XC.
It doesn’t look like the full 5* replay is posted yet, only the 4*S. The same team may also be working the showjumping grand prix that just ended, so they might not have had time to get the XC video finished before that started.
Thank you for confirming! I was hoping I just couldn’t find it, but will have to be patient.
I believe his legs are sewn through the saddle and into the sides of his horse. His ride was amazing to watch.
I planned on watching everything today so I was caught up for SJ tomorrow. The 4* was posted very quickly, so I was hoping 5* would as well. I’m hoping it will be posted tonight… but the longer I wait the more I’m thinking it will be tomorrow. At least I got to see some of the xc today! I’m also avoiding social media as much as possible, scrolling very very very quickly and skimming so I don’t ruin the experience!
I wonder if Emporium getting tangled in his equipment actually caused the fall, or happened after the fact and just kept him from getting up.
I had no issues with the course and saw some nice rides, notably Yasmin Ingham. The only fall I saw was Jess Phoenix popping out of the tack. I didn’t like seeing tired horses being pushed and I saw two rides that were flat-out dangerous so I fully agree re: rider responsibility.
IIRC, he struggled through the coffin and had a stop at the C element. I remember being surprised at how hard the course looked for him from start to finish, I’m so used to seeing him skip around. Great call by great horseman.
I’m just impressed 2 19 year old horses made it around. Impressive to say the least.
I was wondering the same. I’ve seen some videos circulating of horses getting a shoe stuck in the d ring on a girth and the way he was struggling reminded me of that.
Yes, that’s what his rider said.
