Sounds like more Quinn’s and Thomases to come in the future! Boyd mentioned they are going to making more Windfall babies.
Yikes! How in hell did he manage that?
Boyd has two Windfall/Heraldik xx with him called FAST FORWARD and FLIRT that are young There are a few baby full siblings to Thomas that are on the ground too! Very exciting! Gotta love those Trakehners
You’re right, of course. No news is so freaking often good news.
It was such a gnarly fall though, that I have a hard time faulting those of us who saw it – especially given the ensuing cone of silence from our only on-scene reporters – presuming the worst.
I was impressed by Yasmin Ingham as well. It was a very well ridden trip by such a young rider.
Poor Emporium. He’s a big horse and getting tangled in his tack must have been very difficult and frightening for him, especially so, since he was in the water. I’m so glad that he and his rider are OK. They certainly had some of the best veterinary assistance available.
So exciting!!!
Not exactly a cone of silence. The on scene reporters probably had no idea what happened, and the internet was busy burning the rider at the stake and saying her horse was dead.
And that my horse-loving friends is what is known in the newspaper business as an Evergreen Item.
The 5* is up now.
I’ve worked as a reporter and a radio announcer.
If you don’t have reliable sources for every part of a scene, you might not be terribly good at your job.
That said, you’re still right.
I don’t think the public deserves instant updates that might have inaccurate information before a vet even sees horse? Is a reporter supposed to hop in the trailer on the way to the vet? I mean people were saying the horse broke it’s neck based off a 5 second video clip, what are they going to do with partial information? The horse was moved, a vet evaluated the horse, and the rider posted about the horse’s welfare when she was physically and mentally able.
I have never heard of a horse doing that before- how…?? Poor horse and poor rider, that must have been very terrifying. And I understand why they had to sedate him so heavily- that sounds quite dangerous. Hopefully not too much water in the lungs, I’m sure it is very dirty.
A bit disappointed with how the stream shows nearly all of one or two riders’ rides, but only do a fence or two of a ‘lesser known’ rider who’s on course at the same time. Do we really need to see every boring galloping fence of BNR A while Smaller Time Rider B is going through a big water complex? This seems to happen every year… I get that we should be happy to have free streaming, but it’d be a hell of a lot nicer to have some balanced coverage and better camera timing.
Doug Payne also has several up and coming Trakehners -
VINCE VAN GO (Stiletto/Visions of Grandeur/Mystic Replica xx) and VAYA CON DIOS (Songline//Visions of Grandeur/Mystic Replica xx), both out of Vandiver’s dam
Boyd also has another lovely Trakehner called SKY MOON ( E.H. Sixtus/E.H. Cadeau) who has just started his career.
“Oh here’s Dan Kreitl. He’s a nobody, we could watch his entire ride since he’s the only one on course but let’s zoom away to something boring.”
“What? He’s double clear? What? Now he’s in first?”
“Shit, do we have that recorded?”
I get that, believe me I do…but when you are standing in front of a horse who starts flailing around after a fall and people have to hold his head up out of the water and he continually tries to rise and can’t, what are you supposed to think when no one says anything? Been going to this event for almost 30 years, seen several have catastrophic falls over the years. This is the first time I am wrong about the outcome…and I am very happy to be wrong in this case.
I get worried and I wait for an official statement from the rider/owner/officials. People who are probably very busy with the horse and very worried about him. That poor rider popped back on FB and saw all that speculation and judgement.
Holy crap you’re supposed to think that the vets and rider’s teams are doing their damndest to get a good outcome. Maybe next time you should go to Hagyard instead of watching so you can get the real-time updates you feel you’re entitled to after witnessing an accident.
Very pleased to see Buck Davidson have such a good day. He’s had so many injuries and he deserves some good luck.
