Is it just me or is it really hard to find the live scoring!?? Why do these FEI events make the scoring so cumbersome to find, interpret and read?
my boss decided to call me before his ride so I had one eye on the tv and one on my Teams video call !
Does Wabbit usually move that short? Or does he just have a funky trot? I havenāt seen him go all that much.
Yes, hes not the fanciest boy but he can jump haha
Chills when everybody cheered for Lillian Heard. Barnaby looked so relaxed.
I donāt think Iāve ever seen anyone penalized for being late to the ring much less multiple riders. Was there some reason so many folks were late or were the judges just really being sticklers on the time?
So from the Horse and Hound article it sounds like Harry Meade had planned to go down to his warm up a bit early and had this previously approved to do this and then he wasnāt able to when he got there because of a misunderstanding or it sounds like maybe someone complained? and there was a discussion back and forth and by the time it was sorted out he had to go straight into the ring without any warm up in the practice arena.
I guess this disturbed his routine and set the horse off, Harry seems pretty upset for his horses sake.
Wonder what happened there.
Re: being late into the ring, warmups, etc, I just saw Major League Eventingās interview with Lillian Heard about her dressage test with Chilly, her TB. She said she had a really good warm-up and the judges rang the bell as soon as she got into the overall arena, not giving her any chance at all to settle the horse, who had never experienced any sort of atmosphere like that before. You could just see how disappointed she was⦠I really felt for her watching the interview.
I heard John Kyle and whomever his guest was at the time saying the judges rang the bell to start the countdown at the previous horses final halt/salute. This was during Michele Kuchtaās ride on that beautiful gray.
The time ran out for her whilst she was doing a final circle outside the ring, it was a pretty obvious miss.
Both commentators were bewildered by the timing of the start bell coinciding with the final halt.
Iāve never seen a judge do thatā no wonder so many people got a late error.
I donāt think itās standard practice and wonder who decided the bell should be rung so early. Is this a function of having live scoring? Because usually, in non FEI dressage, the bell isnāt rung until the judge is done dictating remarks etc to the scribe.
Itās not like they had a zillion entries to get through and needed to rush.
I would be really upset! Thatās ridiculous.
The bell ringing thing is ridiculous too. I hope the rest of the weekend goes better for Maryland because this is not a good look for the event.
Friday AM I was briefly backside at one point, watching 3* riders go from warmup to the competition area. In one instance, a female rider (I donāt recall who, lovely dark bay horse) was late coming from the warmup. A steward at the entry point told her she was late and the judges bell would probably ring as soon as she entered the stadium area. I donāt know why she was late coming over.
Iāve scribed at a couple FEI events and have never seen the bell rung at the prior riderās halt. Even when weāve been running behind, the judge waited at least until the rider was at the ring.
ETA: at least one show used Evententries with live scoring so I donāt think thatās a factor
Yesterday was kind of a ghost town, today I got a late start and am stuck in traffic! Glad to see a good turnout!
If confusion about start bells is happening at every level, the issue rests with the Fair Hill organizers. If it was one particular level then it could be the judgesā actions.
Iāve never, ever heard a bell for the next horse rung before the previous one has completed.
Briggs Surrat on Coutureāwhat a fabulous little mare and fun to watch. (I love the brown-topped boots and the green shirt with his horse, somewhat randomly.)
Where is the leaderboard for the 3*?
