2023 Maclay Finals Discussion Thread

I must have missed that during the drag break. I think it’s a valid point. These Eq finals have enough questions asked and enough variability in rider/horse experience and prep without adding bravery questions on top of position, track, pace, and scope/step.

I concur. It is supposed to be a test of riding ability, not a test to see who can afford to buy a Grand Prix horse that would also jump through fire upon request.

They are usually well fed🤣it does beg the question of allowing so many entries. Starting the 2nd round at 6pm is a little much.

Yes, for sure the judges have already been there for at least 12 hours today. And they’ve had to pay attention basically the whole time.

No doubt some of the trainers and grooms have been there much longer, but they might have been able to zone out for a bit at different intervals during the day.

I say this every time but Sofia Cady’s horse is so darn cute.

Dang, didn’t quite finish my second case before Sofia Cady was galloping down to fence 4.

Sofia Cady’s horse is really cute.

Is anybody else having trouble with the feed freezing?

Am I mistaken or was 4 in fact specified as a hand gallop fence on the course map posted upthread?

4 is, but they’re talking about the last fence also being a chance to show brilliance.

Flame suit zipped, Are any riders under 6 foot and more than 105#

Not even an attempt at faking a hand gallop! I know she’s young, but nothing to lose at that point

Sure, Clara is all of 5’1" and Augusta Iwasaki, last year’s winner, is also quite short and a very “normal” body type as well.

Yes, all of them.

Is Alyssa Bauer’s horse’s tail real? That’s a ton of hair!

I’m really surprised that no one has come to the first fence off the right lead.

I was thinking the same thing–it seems like an awkward turn the way they’re coming in from the left. But maybe that’s just how it looks on the feed?

When I first looked at the course I assumed people would be doing off the right.

Ava mindmelding with me on Katelyn’s hand gallop
