2023 Maclay Finals Discussion Thread

Did I hear that correctly, no further testing?

I don’t know, I’m wanting it to be Carlee but think it may be Eleanor.

Correct.

Will be interesting to see how the 2nd round scoring shakes out. Carlee had a 95.5 coming in and Eleanor had a 92.9 so - close, but not within a point. If they both scored 90s or better….it’s going to be close!

I thought for sure Eleanor and Carlee would be tested.

The judges are going to do what they’re going to do, but I thought (redacted) nailed the hand gallop better than all the rest, and also showed that she could do the opposite when she reeled him in to fit in the six of the other side.

Me too!

I’m glad to see someone else understands how not to be thwarted by the universe.

for me PERSONALLY, I would pin: Carlee, Tessa, Eleanor.

Carlee is slightly more of a perfectionist in her position. Eleanor goes with the flow and has a lovely feel for where her horse is under her. Tessa really went all out in the test. Great riding by my top 3 picks

I’m only naming names because I can see a reason for it to go any one of a couple of ways, depending on the judges’ angles on a few fences and particular preferences, and I will happily congratulate any of those riders on jobs very well done today.

I have thought it a really good day beginning to end. The courses were excellent, there was a lot of good riding, there were a lot of riders getting an education, there were some horses getting an education, nobody died, probably a few people cried but nobody met with outright disaster. I hope everyone involved gets some really good sleep tonight.

I’ll tell you what, I almost forgot to put in the redaction. And then I would have been kicking myself for a month! Lol.

Wow, they are even dragging the ring for the awards presentation.

That was some great EQ riding, by so many riders. Well done.

They are within minutes of hitting the exact 12 hour mark from the first horse in the ring. Oof.

I of course love the huge grins by the kid who wins, but I really love the ear-to-ear grins of the kids lower down too. Caroline Signorino’s beaming smile with her 9th place warmed my heart.

Mediocre announcer

I think probably tired and punchy.

Agreed. I miss the dulcet tones of Kenn Marash. And I’d like to know the horses’ names.

Ditto. On both counts.
