Well, that looks remarkably- and I am sure deceptively- straightforward.
As for the backwards Maclay text, if I were a horse I would spook at it trying to figure it out.

Right??
Just yesterday I saw a horse at a show who reminded me of one of my all-time favorite superstar equitation horses, and Iām sure that horse I knew would be cantering down to that thinking, why is this set backwards???
I also always feel like the trees with the rounded tops look like something straight out of a Dr. Seuss book.
Itās interesting to me that there is no footage listed anywhere on the course map.
I have a feeling that as you were cantering out of the turn down the long side towards the two combinations, you would hope that you were on a horse with plenty of scope.
I was joking with a friend who is there coaching asking if Bobby Murphy spends all year thinking up ways to traumatize equitation horses. I donāt fully understand why creating a whole new genre of obstacle is a realistic or useful test for these finals, but the horses seem to do a lot better with them every year than I would think.
I suspect 1-2-3 is going to be a mess. If the course doesnāt weed people out, I predict a lot of whining about the judging.
Woke up early, printed off the start list and course. Coffee made, Blood Mary ingredients in the fridge for later, Door Dash app open to the pizza place that opens first⦠BRING ON THE EQ!!
surprise surprise CMH is having sound issues. my god if this was your job youād think youād be better at it.
Up early to go get a scan done at the hospital, but will catch a few rounds firstā¦happy Maclay Sunday! Hope CMH gets its sound stuff figured outā¦
Does everyone else still see tractors in the ring??
This is the tricky part of course design in a nustshell. It has to weed out the great from the really good to the good to the not so good, hopefully without too much carnage.
I remember a comment from a very successful trainer many years ago who said that at the finals, the top 10/15/20 contenders are so talented and prepared and competitive that any one of them could win, so it just comes down to which one has the best day.
But the other 220 people in the class would also like to get around in one piece.
The class intro was sweet but I wish theyād stop glorifying GM.
Good luck to our pathfinder! I cannot imagine going first in a class like this. I remember Langmeier going first a few years ago and winning the whole thingā¦talk about preparedness and the chips falling into placeā¦
Do we suppose weāre really 10 minutes delayed in the ring, or just 10 minutes delayed on the stream?
We only have 220-odd to jump and 4 groups to flat, so we can take 5 trips worth of delay, Iām sure.
@Welshterrier There are two view links in the first post. Iām watching via the NHS website and itās peachy keen for me so far.
Well that was a heck of a good round for the first one out! I canāt imagine being first.
It speaks well for the first rider, and bodes well for everyone else, when the first to go gets around so competently. When the first rider is not successful itās easy for the next three to hold their breath. Well done Schuyler!
CMH isnāt showing it anywhere I can find. When I try clicking on the link to it on the main page it goes to IEA Nationals.
The NHS website is working though, so I guess thatās where Iām going to be watching.
I also got redirected to the IEA page - I had to scroll down on the main CMH page to find the link to the NHS stream.
Can someone please post another link? The one in at the start of the thread didnāt work for me and I canāt find it anywhere on CMH OF COURSE.
TY!
Shame about the swap Elizabeth Rinehart had at the rainbow brite jump. I look forward to seeing her more in the next few years- she has a very nice style!
Aside from the swap, nice smooth round from Elizabeth Rineheart! Ava Stearns is doing such a nice job commentating, finding positive things in each round and really digging into the details of the questions of the course.
Here is the CMH link Iām using btw: https://www.clipmyhorse.tv/en_US/live/14312/national-horse-show-i-longines-fei-jumping-world-cup-2023-2024-i-nal-lexington-alltech-arena
