I like the fact that the course looks reasonably doable for just about everybody. The better riders will make it look smoother, as we have seen.
But I think we’ve only seen maybe one refusal so far after about 30 have gone, which I think is an encouraging sign. I don’t know if that would be any different if there were another 25 or 50 riders involved.
I do think it is a really tricky balancing act to build a course that will separate them all but still allow most people to get around.
I also feel like the relatively conventional jump construction this year might be helping with that. It looks pretty, the pictures will be nice, and some of the standards are very artistic.
But the jump components themselves are not terribly different from what the horses see the other 364 days of the year, which I like.
