My peacock says 8:00 AM my time (CT).
Feeling the pain of the US just missing 6th which I think means we don’t qualify for the next WEG via the Olympics and have to do it some other way.
I think I saw 8am central somewhere but don’t quote me!
Ugh. You’re right. It’s in Aachen, really hope Will can have either Diabolo or Chin Tonic go!
I’m really OK with subbing in a horse. I think it’s a good thing. But I do think that 20 faults isn’t enough. It needs to be high enough to be significant but not so high that people hesitate and don’t do what’s best for the horse… we’ve all seen questionable horses jog.
On a different note, I don’t think the US finish is as doom and gloom as some will think. Honestly? They weren’t bad and have been much worse in the past. Caroline’s 20 was unfortunate, but that wasn’t something I’d have anticipated from Blake. Yes he’s young, but he gets better and better. Without that 20 they’d be 3rd. Or with clean changes from Bruno, they’d be higher. Placement is worse than the actual result.
As for USA, I think we brought our A game. I am super proud of our riders.
You can nitpick about some of the penalties we picked up, but I honestly don’t think there are any other horse and rider combinations in the US that could have significantly changed the results. We weren’t going to catch these top teams this go round!
I think to some extent, Will would have been that rider. Cie la vie.
What if Liz had been the US pathfinder instead of Caroline? Because I did wonder why we were sending our youngest rider and horse out first.
I feel like they do this at every Olympics, e.g. picking a rider who’s had excellent results in the past year, but doesn’t really have the long term consistency. Thinking of Tiana Courdrey in 2012 and Clark Montgomery in 2016. Caroline’s a fantastic rider, but her horse’s greenness was also showing through during SJ, whereas maybe a more established combo (who maybe aren’t top 5 on the USEA rankings, but are consistent and reliable) would be a better pick. JMHO though.
i am very glad DR and XC were on the weekend, so not a work day for me after getting up at 3:30 or 4 a.m. to watch live.
I fear I may not be at my best at work today.
We might have an automatic entry due to being the host nation. Don’t quote me on that, though.
But if Italy, Germany, and Australia hadn’t had their bad luck, we still wouldn’t have touched the podium.
I agree the placement is worse than the result. We rode really well. The problem is, so did everyone else!
I’m still happy with the team. Even a seasoned horse can have a 20…
Look at Jonelle Price!
I think a good solution would be still 20 if you sub after dressage (because sh*t happens, and if you have a lame horse after dressage it’s probably not because of the dressage test), but 30 or 40 to sub after XC.
It’s in Aachen, so no luck on that front.
You might not see it, but at the post check the stewards will look under the belly band to check for rubs, marks and blood.
it seems no matter how much better, we just can’t match the Brits and Germany. And as far as the German rider that fell, he cost Germany a team medal for sure. We just got a 20 at that jump. If we look at each competition, something positive do this, not that. I agree, we did better than the score shows. Learn and move on. Hopefully, Boyd and Will can stay in Europe and compete their other horses.
I’d say 30 at the very least. If you have a 20 on XC and have to re-present, you are going to be down on the time so the substitution penalty should be significantly higher.
Thanks all for keeping me up to date. Do we have anyone in the second round? Boyd perhaps?
Boyd and Liz!
