JAPAN! JAPAN! JAPAN!

I’m crying. What is it about the Olympics? What a comeback for that team.

I hope Cekatinka feels fighting fit tomorrow.

@Cancara yes that clinched the bronze. They had a little time in hand over Belgium but not a rail.

Thrilled for Japan… but I’m also having feelings that a glance off at a skinny and a horse who can’t make it to SJ the next day are the same penalty. :woman_shrugging:

I completely agree. It’s illogical and unhorsemanlike.

I have no problem with being allowed to sub in a horse on the last day, but a paltry 20 penalties for doing it bothers me immensely.

I’m going to be a twit for a second. Gentlemen, it is the Olympic Games. Pin your ties.

agreed.
if the sub penalty was 30 or 40, I think most of us would support it more.

Im curious how the substitution penalty amount was decided. 20 does seem really light to be able to use a fresh horse that didn’t go xc.

Come on Laura

Thinking about Thomas, and his aversion to the painted poles. You know Abraxas hated them too. Like Thomas, he was stunning in dressage, brilliant xc, and FU to show jumping. Currently, Tim Price has one of those too. Vitali who was in first at Badminton, and he dropped quite a few poles, and he is sort of notorious for doing that.

Damn damn damn damn! Feets up just a little bit more there sir. What a shame.

I’m saying “what a shame” about a team gold. I should shut up and get more coffee.

Looking at the team scores, without Caroline’s 20 the US would be on the podium. It’s a lot closer than we’ve been in the past I suppose (just looked, and 2000 was the last team medal, Bronze), but still so disappointing. I like Caroline, but at the end of the day it’s a 9 year old horse.

You shouldn’t be able to sub in a fresh horse and stay on the podium.

They didn’t complete a team. Not trying to take anything away from Japan, but the point of the sport is to be able to do all 3 phases.

Also taking into account that a glance off 20 would also come with time penalties!

Excited for France!
I love when a host country medals in front of their home crowd.

Yes, thrilled for France!

And OMG Great Britain earned their gold. They were untouchable.

And I am happy for Japan and hats off to them. What an impressive performance. But I hope we revisit the penalties for subbing in a horse on the last day.

I think there is something to be said by having a rider like Phillip Dutton on the team who you know will get the horse home without faults on xc to help the team score.
