Flat phases have begun! Looks like the judges are making them do it without stirrups.
The cameras seem to be glitching quite badly. The feed keeps going black and the cutting back in.
Is there an order of go for the Flat Phase?
I stopped in there this morning and watched a bit of the schooling class. It was interesting to see.
Plus that facility has so much history. If those barn walls could talk!

Gymnastics phase starting in a few minutes! Camera is still appearing glitchy though…
Interesting test for the gymnastics phase
I think I like it. Good test of adjustability and actual exercises without being hard on the horses.
Ella Witt just laid it down. Her horse is
Perhaps I am stupid but this gymnastics exercise looks remarkably simple and frankly easy. No bending lines, change of leads at walk or trot? What happened to the Talent Search?
Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was pretty representative of how pros would do gymnastic work at home for top level jumpers? Trotting into a grid, bringing your horse all the way back around the corners with transitions, making sure they have enough impulsion into the next grid quick. The judges designed the test themselves, so they knew what they wanted to judge out of it.
I especially like the choice to put the camera crew behind the large black speaker so that you can’t really se the first line, or the last halt and rein back. Geez Louise!
Video quality aside, I went to watch JJ Torano’s round because I saw he scored a 97! and wow, his hand gallop to the triple bar and halt on the backside was amazing.
I agree. And also mindful of the fact that these horses have to jump a technically challenging course tomorrow — and that the top four horses have to jump that round four more times. It’s a tough weekend for the horses, and I thought the gymnastics was incredibly mindful of that while letting riders show off their position and effective basics.
Did Ella not do the flat phase? She only has a gymnastics score
This shows her with an 84 in the flat phase:
Hugh Turner’s horse is such an interesting color. I love it!
The skinny wall is winning
Just came here to say the same thing. Some of them you can see coming five or six strides out. Interesting that Ava noted that there were standards in place at that fence during the walk which were then removed.
Good for Schuyler Dayner - tidy round to be the first inside the time allowed.
Who is doing the commentary with Ava?
