Brooke Haggerty had a nice trip. She’s been on a roll lately.
WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP for Brooke Hagerty! She’s on a hot streak this fall.
Some years it has felt like “This is Jane Doe’s to lose!” but this year feels a lot more open, with younger riders who have several years left and quite a few who could easily win this, based on round one so far.
What do you all think of the course?
I don’t think it’s doing a phenomenal job of separating the top riders between themselves, and since everything is related within about 10 strides, it is very easy for the less experienced riders to get into trouble very quickly and not be able to hang out in the turn, do some flatwork, and fix it. You can tell from the second fence who is going to perform a death-defying maneuver at 9, and they don’t have a great opportunity to fix it in between.
Maddie Tosh - phenomenal!
I’d like to know the judges’ angle on fences 1-2. I thought Maddie was a little under it and loooong out, but from the camera angle it’s hard to see.
Maddie was as close to perfect as I think anyone could be today. Ava Stearns said it exactly - a privilege to watch.
Agree. It’s not doing the job the first course is supposed to do.
From the angle I just saw, I think the judges are over by the one stride. So the angle on that first line might not be the best, with all the fences in the way?
Uneducated opinion but that last inside turn made Maddie really stand out. Plus bonus points for those cute ears!
The horse was a little slow off the ground there I thought, but she never panicked and he covered it up. Made the rest of the course look like a walk in the park.
Agree that the rest of the course was excellent. I’m judging the first line pretty harshly because of the course design note I mentioned upthread- if you don’t get the job done there you’re up a creek. Now, she fumbled the paddle a bit in the first line and then picked it up “what, like it’s hard?” but I still have her hanging out towards the bottom of my top 10.
Parker Pearson just had a nice trip. Lovely horse. She did a nice job of keeping him on his lead when he looked like he was about to shift at the out of the tight seven.
Tragic for Tara Govindarajan, who rode a very nice 11 fences and then had a difference of opinion with her horse about where to leave the ground at 12, coming to the ground.
Thanks for the opinions. The course just seems quite different than the 1st courses of the past.
Earlier they were saying that the judges worked with the course designer to create a more huntery style of course. (Tammy Provost and Rachel Kennedy in the box)
This year’s excuse is that I will be working from 12pm to [allegedly] 12am, but realistically it’ll be even later than that, rip me. Last night I was working until around 2:30 and I have just gotten up to finish records before going back to work.
On the bright side, that means I won’t be able to jinx someone, probably
I’m skipping to the most recent reply to avoid spoilers, so I don’t know if this has already been pointed out.
But they have the replay up for what they’re calling Competition Part 1, which is the early section of the class, and so far the not-live stream is perfect. Knock wood. 🪵
That’s the first time I’ve had a “wood” emoji option pop up, so I’m going with it, combined with a hammer to knock on it.
The not-live stream also has a pop up that gives you the option to watch other videos of the same horse, which I have not tried yet.
I tried to watch. Clip My Horse immediately stated that I have used my free trial. WHY can’t they just charge us $10-20 to watch specific events?! I don’t need $359 worth of horse tv.
This is definitely a complaint I have for USHJA/USEF. Watching these events keep people looped in to our sport when they can’t afford or don’t want to go to A shows.
