2025 Foal Watch

I can’t believe it’s almost 2025 already! Breeding and foaling season will be here before we know it. What does everyone have going on this year?

I only have one in foal for 2025, after a 2024 season that had more twists, turns, and drops than any roller coaster I’ve ever ridden. Lots of big plans for this year, though, including my first embryo transfer. I’m not sure whether I’m an eternal optimist or a masochist!

AM Dazzling Carina (Al Marah Horatio x AM Dazzling Dizzy by Opalo) is due June 3rd. She is in foal to an AQHA stallion named Countrys Top Gun (Country Little Lena x Judges Roany Rosey by Line Judge). I don’t know who was more shocked when she settled on one cover with no more prep than counting six days after a shot of Lutalyse and hauling her over to be bred, my vet or me! Fingers and toes crossed, but her pregnancy has been blissfully uneventful so far. This will be her 7th foal but her first with me (I purchased her in April 2024). If all continues to go well and she has no complications foaling, the plan is to breed her to E Zee Slider +// (Hesa Zee x Zee Starlight by Zee Impressive) and hope she gives me a keeper filly before retiring. I have some questions about her previous breeding/foaling history and will be traveling for work the first week of June, so the plan is for Carina to foal out at the repro clinic that will be doing most of my breeding work this year.

TCR Accidentaly Dunit (Shiner Dun It x SAS Arielle by Al Marah Horatio) will be bred to Major Mac V (Maclintock V x Majors Tiffany GA by DS Major Afire) on a LFG breed back after she lost her 2024 filly in a dystocia this past April. I waffled for a long time about what I wanted to do with Sydney after the heartbreak of losing the filly. But multiple vets have assured me that what happened was almost certainly a freak occurrence. I took a deep breath and decided to give it another go - though she will absolutely be foaling out in a clinic setting, assuming she conceives, out of an abundance of caution.

SAS Arielle (Al Marah Horatio x AM Daphne Ho by AM Fond Friar) will be bred to Zee Kahili +++// (Mexicali Mac V x Zees Kopy Kat by Zee King) via embryo transfer. After a very frustrating couple of breeding seasons, including a pregnancy loss between days 26 and 48 this year, we pulled an endometrial biopsy on Arielle that came back a IIB (10-50% chance of carrying a foal to term). I do not want to make a habit of breeding via ET - I think having my super good-minded mares raising their own babies is so, so helpful - but both the stallion owner and I have sky high hopes for this cross, so I’m giving it a go. Unless someone comes along who wants to buy an embryo out of her in the future, this will be Arielle’s last foal (she’s had 5). She and I will be showing next year, as well; the only upside of her fertility issues has been discovering what fun she is to ride and show.

Arielle and Sydney have been wearing Equilume masks for about two weeks now in hopes that I can get the breeding season started in March instead of April this year.

What does everyone else have coming up in 2025? It’s going to be a loooooong wait until June for me; I need some distractions!

Yay, 2025 Foal Watch thread! Always makes it feel more “real”, lol! :star_struck:

My Saddlebred mare, Arya, is in foal to Finest (Hanoverian) for a repeat cross of her 2022 filly. The most recent pic I have of that filly is below - with the brush balanced on her butt, lol. Her owner sent me that in August or September…

Arya is almost 7 months along and doing great, just hanging out and being pampered. Since i wasn’t going to be riding her past October, and the owner of her 2023 filly (pic attached - with the 4 whites) has a gaggle of mares and doesn’t have a lot of time for handling, i offered to take the filly back for the winter & spring and do some groundwork with her. She’s very ADD and needs a job, not the type of baby that can sit out in a field and hang out with a buddy and do nothing for 2 years. She gets bored and will express said boredom in … erm… creative ways. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
So i’ve been doing all sorts of groundwork and desensitization exercises with her and she is LOVING all of it. She’s an absolute peach when she’s got a job and gets regular attention. She craves it.

Arya is due to foal out sometime around late April - early May. Having her kiddo back for the winter has been a wonderful distraction from the wait! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hop is due in March to Speightsong, an Indiana stallion who we used for his tremendous durability. He ran through age 9, with 50 starts, a couple stakes placing/win, and $438k in LTE. I have included a photo of him below. He is also the 2024 #3 first crop sire by earnings in the Midwest.

This particular foal will be 3x5 to Seeking the Gold - which is…a lot. Hopefully Hop’s great temperament comes through for us. The foal is also bred on the same cross as Straight No Chaser, Echo Town, and Om, to name a few. Plus, this foal will be eligible for the lucrative Indiana sired and bred program.

Hop’s last two foals have been born at 347 days, which would be April 23rd - for those who are tracking! And as a reminder, I work in tax so if my posts drop off, it’s likely nothing happened and I am just overwhelmed. If you have me on Facebook I’m better about responding to messages there.

I had my first foal born in 2024, and I’m excited to have another mare pregnant for 2025!

I bought this mare in November from Portugal.

“Eleita” is a Lusitano, 15, and due to foal in early July. It’s a late date because she actually foaled in 2024 too but it was during a heat wave and the foal died (at least this is the story the seller told me…). She has had 3 foals previously.
Here she is snoozing at sunset today

In foal to Octal, Lusitano stallion in Portugal

Hoping for a buckskin foal but bay and perlino are also possibilities considering both parents are buckskin.

No foals or breeding plans for me for the time being but I’m excited to follow along with everyone else! Sending all my best wishes for smooth and uneventful pregnancies and foalings and healthy and happy mares and foals (and owners!)!

I have one due in 2025:

Out of my mare FCF As You Wish and by the Van Gilder bred Arabian stallion, VG Juan Inamillion+. The mare is ATA approved, though I have only used her for Arabian foals. She has large foals for her smallish stature (14.1 and 3/4 H) and once had a displacement colic a week after foaling so I am reluctant to breed her to a larger stallion. This will be her first foal by a stallion other than my own, FCF Oberons Vanity. I have retained both her daughters from that cross so wanted to try her with an outside stallion.

Thank you!

I have one foal due this year and because I’m planning on keeping this one, it will probably be my last foal for some time. I’m really hoping for a filly.

Here’s a picture of her and her 2022 colt.
