The name Sakura would be perfect, except it’s already used by a client for one of his 2021 fillies!
Aw shucks! Well, Google says Tsuki is Japanese for moon and “momoiro” is pink, so Moira?
She looks strong and beautiful! My suggestion is At Sea, with barn name Umi (Japanese for ocean).
Suki
She’s so lovely! Her star looks like a hot air balloon to me so maybe At Takeoff, At Liftoff, At Great Heights, or something else aerial-themed? For a barn name, Sora (Japanese girl’s name meaning sky) or Asuka (flying/bird)?
There’s also Miu (“beautiful rain” for her upside-down teardrop) or Mizuki (“beautiful moon”).
Disclaimer: I don’t speak Japanese so if you like one of these names you should probably verify that it doesn’t actually mean “toilet splash” or something.
LOL same goes for my suggestions! I like At Takeoff.
At First Light…?
@Montanas_Girl why no updated pics of a fat Carina??
Updates on your ET plans?
Arya is at Day 312 today. Lying down a lot, LOL. Feeling very sooky and tired, hoovering all her food… she’s definitely feelin’ it.
No udder development yet, I expect to see some progress there sometime in the next 10 days or so.
Ooh, winner!
@Arzny, @Riven, & @BeasFamilyFarms: any updates on your girls? Hoping you’ve just been busy with new babies and all is well!
Ask and ye shall receive! I took this photo of Carina on Saturday (288 days):
Arielle and Sydney are both being checked again tomorrow afternoon. I have students enrolled in Equine Management at the local university (my alma mater) coming for a repro lab that we scheduled to coincide with a visit from my vet - two birds, one stone! Hopefully we will see confirmation that they have both ovulated, and then I can make a plan to get this breeding season started.
Sydney is also looking (a little too) round this spring. She’s already on muzzle #3 for the season.
I love all the name suggestions! Keep them coming! I have to check with the Jockey Club which “At” names are available.
She continues to be adorable, sweet, and smart. Passed her foal wellness check with flying colors, my vet was impressed with her and said this is one of the biggest foals she’s seen so far this year.
My, those legs are LONG. Beautiful filly.
What a sweet stunner she is! Her marking reminds me of an aspen leaf, so another suggestion is At Elevation.
Or At This Height
Great picture! She is lovely.
Our three are growing up.
TB colt by Collected. (4 weeks old)
TB colt by Speaker’s Corner (4 weeks old)
TB filly by Cross Traffic (6 weeks old)
3 weeks old here… she’s a big, strong girl

At the Sake Bar?
Thank you for reaching out! Unfortunately not much great news to report yet. We had one mare foal directly on day 340, but unfortunately placenta detached and foal was ultimately stillborn. Now we’re waiting on the others (3 maidens, 1 seasoned momma). They’re all in the Netherlands, so weather is just starting to turn a bit more friendly now. A lot of the breeders in that area have commented that their mares are all 2-3 weeks behind this season. The oldest we’re waiting on is currently at 358 days (full sibling to the one we lost), and next one we’re waiting on is at 337 today.
Hoping the return of spring gets these ladies going to deliver 4 healthy foals soon!
So sorry to read you lost your foal. Fingers crossed that the next three are healthy and you are happy.
Well, today’s vet visit was eventful.
Sydney has a good CL and looks ready to short cycle and potentially breed next week.
Arielle still looks either transitional or just plain weird. Some uterine fluid, including some with streaking suggesting a possible infection. Multiple small follicles on both ovaries, plus a ~27 mm follicle on the left that had white flecks in it and looked like it might be going anovulatory. She also had a CL and what my vet called a “cystic CL” (not a term I’ve heard before) on the right. Looks like another trip to the repro clinic is in order to try and figure out what is going on plus pull a culture/cytology.
And Carina, who up to now has been surprisingly unproblematic…has placentitis… She is at 291 days today and just started getting the first bit of edema/development in front of her udder a couple of days ago, so I had no suspicions about her. Baby was kicking and had a good heart rate, and the amniotic fluid looked good, but her endometrium was thickened/inflamed, and there was a very small area of placental separation visible on the ultrasound. She’s now on a slew of meds, which is super fun with a mare who I can barely get to eat all her feed on a normal day…Thank goodness she’s a saint for oral syringes and injections, but I think we are both going to be sick of each other by the time she foals.
Sigh. Nothing around here is ever simple.
