While Anna Marie’s birth was smooth and beautiful, Fionna had some issues afterward. Retained placenta which eventually came out with oxytocin, then a colic the following day. Turns out she had some pretty severe ulcers. After a uterine flush, some fluids, and starting on ulcer meds, she is home and doing well. I just couldn’t have a completely uneventful one!

No rest for the weary, huh? I’m glad she’s doing better now!

Sorry, I’m not familiar with forums, that’s why I was a bit uncertain on where to post it. Thanks for the recommendation!

Jingles for Fionna!

Darn, your horses like to keep you worried all the time.

Hope all are doing great and you can just enjoy that cute baby.

First of all, I hope Fionna stays well and it’s smooth sailing from here. Second, I believe both the Spanish and the Portuguese have names for these horses as they are not uncommon in those countries. I can’t remember what they are and I’m too lazy to Google it this morning.

Tipsy was palped yesterday post foaling and has now been officially retired from breeding. I am planning on bringing her back into work. Has anyone here transitioned a broodmare? I don’t believe she’s been sat on since her last race.

I bought Arielle as a broodmare in 2020. When she failed to get in foal for the second year in a row in 2023, I put her back to work. She’s turned out to be an absolute gem, and right now she’s my primary show horse. This photo was taken at our lesson on Tuesday (yes, I realize how much weight I need to lose…it’s a work in progress):

We pulled a biopsy on her last fall that came back a IIB, which means she can no longer carry her own foals. I’m going to attempt an ET this year to get a foal from a cross I’ve been trying to get done with her for years, and then she will likely be retired to “just” riding horse status until she’s ready to be fully retired. She’s 18 this year.

1 week old. Sorry just a screenshot from video, I need to get the camera out and get some good shots of her this weekend. She’s everything I could have hoped for! Such an athlete already.

She’s absolutely stunning🤩 Not to take anything away from this beautiful filly but how’s our old friend Fuego doing?

He’s great! Mr. Personality as always, so still gets plenty of attention even if there is a new little sister!

Wow he looks great and so grown up - even playing with that cone! Hard to believe where he started. Glad you got an easier one this year and hope mama continues her recovery

Great pictures @Fuego1. She’s adorable!

@quietann, what a nice colt! I love the speckled nose.

My one mare only had about a year under saddle before I bred her. She had two foals and then came back to work and it has gone pretty easily. Just take time building up their fitness and start out with a lot of in hand work to build up their core strength and top line. I have heard, anecdotally, about some mares not wanting to come back to work but I’ve yet to witness it and I have a couple of friends who have brought tb broodmares back to work successfully. I believe there is a whole division for them at the RRP now? Just take it slowly but I’m sure it will go well! Sorry you won’t be able to breed her but she looks lovely and I’m sure will make a super riding horse too! Such a kind eye!

Congrats everyone on all the cute babies and good luck to everyone waiting! I have one mare out on a breeding lease and she just had the most darling buckskin filly so I’m living vicariously!

Everything you need to know about Sydney summed up in one video:

:roll_eyes::woman_facepalming:

I should have known she would do that and pulled the feeder out of the run-in after breakfast this morning. At least she didn’t succeed in removing her grazing muzzle this time! Little sister Addy was equally unperturbed by all of this, but Arielle, who I was leading back to the barn when I took the video, was not at all amused.

Never a dull moment around here.
