To whet your appetite for the big one tomorrow, here are replays of the two big races at Epsom today, the Oaks G1 for the fillies and the Coronation Cup G1 for older horses, both run over the same course and distance as the Derby.

Front running ride from Johnny Murtagh on Dancing Rain in the Oaks. You’ll also get to see Frankie Dettori pick up a 10 day ban for dropping his hands on board fav Blue Bunting… http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/0,27770,423855,00.html

St Nicholas Abbey rallies to beat top mare and BC F&M Turf winner, Midday, in the Coronation, after she passed him in the straight. St Nick is a horse with a lot of heart… http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/0,27770,426698,00.html

A 9am this morning appeals court decision has barred Kieren Fallon from riding in the Derby.

Pat Smullen will fly in from Ireland at the last minute to ride Recital.

So if Frankie got 10 days for blowing it yesterday, is he allowed to ride today?

What a finish… and what a ride from the young French kid… Mikaeal Barzalona.

A Coolmore 1-2 (albeit with the winner trained in France by Andre Fabre), to upset the hopes of a Royal win, with the Queen’s horse coming in 3rd.
A couple of weeks ago the Queen had a private lunch at Coolmore, during her visit to Ireland.

Jesus people, don’t all post at once now, it’s only the Derby.

Out of 13 horses, Coolmore had five–1, 2, 4, 6 and 10. Godolphin had only one, but their Darley branch bred Carlton House.

What does it take to get a start in THE Derby?

WOW, what a run! Just… wow.

Thank you for the link. I love the horse, jockey and the commentary was great!

Great race and great ride!

Great ride - of sorts - as I take issue (as did the stewards) with the brass-balls celebration at the wire by jockey (image) 19-yr old Mickael Barzalona

Dude, with only the nose win, that was waaaaaaay too soon to start the victory-in-the-irons junk.

Sorry The Queen’s horse could only hit the board, but he had all the opportunities to do take it all.

Great race, love the breeding on the winner, bummer that the Queen couldn’t have a winner.

(And am just the teeniest bit disappointed to see the Coolmore people win it again).

For those Royal watchers - yes, Kate and Price William were there to support The Queen

Alas HRH The Queen didn’t look happy with the outcome although 3/4 lengths behind the winner is no reason to sulk. This is the first French trained horse to win Epsom since 1976.

André Fabre, a former jump jockey who has been champion trainer in France for 22 seasons and won the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe seven times.

Fabre, who has not spoken to the French racing press for 24 years, has a better relationship with the British press. He excused Barzalona’s premature celebration as “youthfulness” but added he would, indeed, be having a “quiet word” with him about it.

I know Fallon is an incredible jockey, but he has a horrible attitude. The guy’s a total jerk.

I have to think the winning rider thought all he had to catch was Carlton House and missed Treasure Beach completely.

Aidan O’Brien’s kid can really ride, too.

Maybe he’s back snorting things he shouldn’t. I wonder if he’s racing in France again. Aren’t they the jurisdiction who caught him last time?

The Queen always looks like she is sucking a persimmons. Nothing new there

I really enjoyed the second race posted with the St Nick horse. I never would have believed a horse could get so out of sorts than come back like she did.

Is it just me or is JP O’Brien really tall for a jockey?

Re: Fallon - I remember a few years back when he had an affair with a well-known trainer’s wife - anyone remember who? Was it Henry Cecil’s?

Joseph o’Brien is close to 6ft, so he only has maybe another year or two at the most as a flat jockey before he gets too big to make weight. He’ll then probably follow in his Dad’s footsteps and become a jump jockey. And yes he can ride, he won a silver medal in the European junior Eventing championships last year.
Did a great job on the pacemaker yesterday, and held on for 4th ahead of his more fancied stablemates.
