26 Welsh ponies in danger in Michigan

Just came from the Manchester, MI hay auction where the auctioneer announced that on Sat, there will be a special auction to disperse the estate of a nationally known Welsh pony breeder whose stock was seized by the state. I don’t know who it was, auctioneer stated that the woman’s name was Allison and that her farm started with a “P”. Also that all of these horses had recently been on her website for $1500-$10,500.

Details:
26 purebred Welsh ponies from weanlings to 5 years. No papers, owner would not give them to the guys who seized the horses. Don’t know if it would be possible to get replacements. Not broke. (shockingly, all of the broke horses were gone when the state showed up).

Absolute, unadvertised sale. No minimu bids. No “no-sales”. Everything sells.

ALso, all of her equipment, pony wagons, harness, feeders, trailers etc. “stuff” starts at 6 pm, ponies promptly at 9pm.

THere were several known kill buyers at the hay auction today and I’m sure that they will be back on Sat. The one doesn’t like to pay more than $20/head.

I would like to go but DH is terrified that I would bring home a whole trailer load…will go if someone with some willpower wants to go with me or if someone else wants to buy.

Good luck getting the word spread to good buyers.

Is there some sort of National Welsh Association that you could notify?

Are there any pony clubs or 4H clubs in your area that you could notify?

Obviously, greenies would need to go to people experienced enough to take on the training (either themselves or have them professionally trained), but, perhaps some of the parents or instructors involved might be interested.

Or maybe you could give the local tack shop(s) and feed stores a heads-up that some project ponies will be available and they could help spread the word. Plus, maybe let your vet and farrier know.

The more word gets around, the more chance these ponies will have. Thank you IHF for getting the ball rolling.

I probably wouldn’t even have known…I try to avoid loking at livestock that will soon be eaten…just too sad. But, two trips ago, I heard ponies whinnying and found out that I had missed them being auctioned by less than 10 minutes. THe group of ponies sold as a lot for $40…to a known KB. Soo, now I walk through the buildings, but there haven’t been any ponies since then. TOday when I asked if there were any horses or ponies I got the flyer for Sat.

Auctioneer seemed very honest…said that they were not broke but that kids had climbed all over them when they went to see them in the holding pens and that they were “a very calm bunch, in good weight, in need of grooming and hoof trims.”

Ooooooh I want a pony! Usually I’m relieved I’m a long way from an auction, but not this time. I would just love to stick a Welsh pony out in my field. Preferably gray.

Do something Holly

Don’t you let those babies go to the killer, aren’t there some welsh breeders and pony breeders on Coth, maybe put this where ever they hang out.

It sounds to me like she IS trying to do something about it.

I may not be able to be in a place to help out financially or to buy a pony, but here’s a bump for the thread to put it back at the top of the page.

Oh man, I actually wish I were closer… I really could not afford another horse at the moment but I’ve always wanted a little Welsh project pony. ): I hope they’re all safely placed… there are some downright adorable ones on that site…

Any Welsh lovers/breeders on here?

Let’s keep this post bumped up!

My first pony was a registered Welsh; the breed holds a dear space in my heart. I wish I was close enough to attend this auction, but Maine is a long ways from MI.

I almost wish you hadn’t posted the link.:frowning: I saw two or three I would bid on in a heartbeat . . . and the last thing I need right now is a pony to add to my board bill.

CmdrCltr

yes there are breeders here…and most are filled to capacity already…:frowning:

Ooh. I want Enchanted Dawn…

How can we help? I’m too far to actually visit the auction, but I could use a pony or two…so…what can I do???

and unfortunately, this one CLLYNNCOPA STUD takes place tomorrow

I am very worried for these ponies as the kbs will be in attendance.

I am going to the dispersal in Ontario and then I will be out of town and will not be able to go but I will pass the word along to some other pony people in the state. I hope they all go to good homes.

5 hours from me - too bad! I have a BIG trailer - Hubby is cringing hmmm…
