26 Welsh ponies in danger in Michigan

I agree - Baxtersmom and IHF have done a FANTASTIC job of mobilizing everyone. Hell, even my fiancee wants a pony. And he’s the one that told me not too long ago that I have too many horses  So if there are people in the world who can make an effort like this happen then I have hope for humanity.

All I’m saying is to now let the auction do what it’s supposed to do. Let’s have a competitive sale with enough watchful eyes to keep these ponies from getting into the wrong hands. And let’s have the auction management do what they have to do to ensure everything is carried out properly. Too many cooks in the kitchen burns the pot roast…or something. If we all try to micromanage outside of the sale I simply fear that someone would end up feeling screwed over. And that sucks.

Geez, people, if it’s a govt. seizure, who cares what the state of Michigan gets? Seriously? No owner is harmed by bidder collusion, which was proposed in the name of coordinating efforts to keep ponies out of the hands of kill buyers.

But not if it means someone who would like to bid on the pony is made to feel guilty for doing so .

the sheep

I am VERY interested in the sheep. I live in the SW corner of MI, and would go, but I work SAT nite. anyone interested in possible bidding for me and housing the sheep until I could pick them up on Sunday. I would paypal $ before hand. Not quite sure how much those little cuties should go for, any ideas?

Ponies at Manchester

I’m getting in on this a little late, but I’m 30 minutes SE of Manchester outside of Willis. I would be willing to house and feed up to 6 ponies for 30 (maybe more) days at no charge, if someone needs a place.

I’ve been out of horses for 5 years, but have 3 small pastures with solid fencing, 1 with a lean to shelter and 6 empty box stalls. Just put in a couple hundred bales of 1st cutting hay, so that’s not a problem.

Times are tough, so I can not cover farrier and/or vet bills, but might be able to get any urgently needed trimmming done for free.

I sold my trailer, so have no way to haul, but would like to offer any assistance I can. If the prices don’t go too high I might be able to buy one of the ponies myself, but would need to track down a way to haul.

Send me a PM if I can be of any assistance with a place to keep a pony for awhile.

Thanks,

Susan

I don’t see a problem with saying “hey, I like this one and that one and I’m going to bid on them” but taking “dibs” seems a little silly - perhaps we can narrow it down to which ponies have no interest at this time? That would probably be more helpful. Personally, I like about half of them well enough to bring one home if the price is right, but if someone else wants them more, well, thats fine with me.
(That being said, I think I’m really interested in #26 & 27, and don’t hold me to it, but I might be interested in the one-eyed mare, if shes sweet & I can talk hubby into it)

How do you know if KB is bidding?

I do NOT need a pony, but now plan to attend this auction.

How much would a KB be willing to pay for one of these ponies? If there are no bids or only a KB bid on any of the following ponies, I would be willing to kick in and bid against the KB, but I have a limit of 2.
(3, 8,9,11,14,24,25,26,27)

I’m just not sure how to identify if KB is bidding, any suggestions?

Thanks, Susan

I could bid for your sheep and possibly keep them in my backyard until Sunday. I’m only 20 mins from manchester and could haul my 2h down to pick them up. Let me know if you want to work something out.

SSacres,

This thread and an e-mailing campaign have likely run off the KBs and I think most of these ponies are now going to go to good homes. :D#11 will likely be the high priced horse of the sale and in my estimation will bring $1000 or maybe more. My concern remains with the ones with “issues” which it seems that you are also interested in! Yea!

I also think we should figure out how many of the ponies have interests based on this post. My main picks are 3, 11,12, 13 & 14. I could take the crypt but I wouldn’t be able to get his surgery right away. But I do have adequate fencing and such for a stud.

FYI

FYI, the owner of the ponies has said there is no cryptorchid pony. The castrations were done by Dr. D Kirkland. If you know the area feel free to ask him if you’d like to be sure.

Please don’t start this. The owner of the ponies is that state of MI. The previous owner has said lots of things. I saw the cryptorchid pony. It was noted when his coggins was pulled. He was actively breeding mares when the ponies were taken.

FYI, the court officer was at the farm yesterday. He said in answer to a direct question “there is no appeal in process, the pevious owner willingly signed the court order in the presence of her lawyer”.

So if we want to identify ponies that are POTENTIALLY at risk of going to kill, it’s as simple as taking a poll of ponies that people are interested in. Obviously not everyone will buy every single pony they’re interested in, but a pony like #27 who already has three people expressing interest is pretty likely to get a home.

So if you intend to be present and/or to send a proxy bidder to this auction, help us identify which ponies are not so popular by recording the ponies that you MIGHT bid on at the auction, which will show us the at-risk ponies through process of elimination:

I have taken the liberty of already adding what the four people who’ve listed numbers said on this thread.

Link for someone who wants to ADMINISTRATE the poll (Iron Horse, baxtersmom, I’m looking at you):

someone had already entered “me” in the poll, but I am interested in more than 2 of them, so I “updated” myself, hope it doesn’t cause too much confusion.

Jn4jenny, the poll will be very helpful if people take the time to use it. Thank you!!

cool poll- my prozy bidder has the authority to act as a catch buyer for any pony that is not bid on- The only one that I am NOT willing to take is the cryptorchid colt. I won’t be there in person, and I don’t have the facilites to care for a stud.

update…

Every single pony got their feet trimmed today! Yea! oh, and haircuts while they were tranquilized!

Great poll!
I am very excited that I am the only one on the buckskin mare right now as I have a very small budget going into this and would love to add another to my pony herd.

I bet there are going to be a LOT of people there. I have gotten at least 3 emails from different sources about the ponies. Amazing that EVERYONE is not on the BB isn’t it??

I put some down on the poll…there is some ponies I know by name but, they are younger on the website and not named on the list…good luck to all and the ponies!
