26 Welsh ponies in danger in Michigan

Ok I went back and read the thread. The sale was part of a rancorous divorce case.

At one point a poster quotes a lawyer from IRL who said the owner of the ponies signed them over to the state, “willingly” though clearly under duress. So there was no avenue to appeal since they weren’t actually seized.

Owner had already sold off the more valuable horses and the auction was mostly young unbroke stock. Owner seemed like a functional person who lost her home and farm in a nasty divorce and was not living on the property when the ponies went to auction.

It’s disturbing to see these posts and that petition which are desperate and somewhat incoherent. Someone reverting to old grievances after a decade in this fashion is not a good sign. There was no suggestion in the ten year old thread that owner had issues so it seems like a sad loss of functionality over the past decade.

Well, now if you call a furry pony a “woolly beast” you know where it’s ancestors were bred…

And to add to the train wreck, this poster *** edit: whom I have quoted above ***, iirc, is a woman whose animals were seized a couple years ago, she received a jail sentence and was released today…for neglect to the point of starvation of some of her herd.

Really?

From the thread I gathered that the horses were left on the property under the care of her husband after she was evicted from the house. When they went to auction they were scruffy but not in distress. The animals were not seized for care reasons but as part of a division of assets for divorce.

The online petition was started at least two years ago.

All this went down 10 years ago. There was no suggestion of neglect at the time. Jail sentence for neglect tends to be short and rare, so even if someone had a sentence I doubt they would just be released “today”, ten years later.

I think you must have her conflated with someone else because this does not make sense based on what’s in the thread.

If you have some specific information or a link you could post it here and I will stand corrected.

You’re misunderstanding.

The woman I quoted, who bought one of the ponies per her post… who goes by “GoshenNY” on COTH, and signs posts “J”,… has since then, since buying that pony, described in the post I quoted… neglected to the point of starvation most of her herd, had her animals seized, and done a jail term for that neglect.

Google: Goshen NY., Argus Farm,
I’m not on a device I can do that for you at present.

Oh oh oh. I see. The Goshen person. I thought you meant welshponies! My mistake!

I meant the person I quoted. That’s why I quoted them.

“On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me a 52 Thoroughbreds meme.
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me 26 scruffy but not neglected Welsh ponies.”

Everyone join in!

Sorry, couldn’t resist (and I only read the last two pages of the thread).
