Ok I went back and read the thread. The sale was part of a rancorous divorce case.
At one point a poster quotes a lawyer from IRL who said the owner of the ponies signed them over to the state, “willingly” though clearly under duress. So there was no avenue to appeal since they weren’t actually seized.
Owner had already sold off the more valuable horses and the auction was mostly young unbroke stock. Owner seemed like a functional person who lost her home and farm in a nasty divorce and was not living on the property when the ponies went to auction.
It’s disturbing to see these posts and that petition which are desperate and somewhat incoherent. Someone reverting to old grievances after a decade in this fashion is not a good sign. There was no suggestion in the ten year old thread that owner had issues so it seems like a sad loss of functionality over the past decade.
