Tell him you have your own shipper that you’ve used many times before, and you would prefer to have somebody you know. Take it or leave it.

Oh heck yeah!

Cereal and shipping is sounding kind of like a Nigerian scam …

$6K?

I laugh, yet feel bad for Pete because Pea Brain’s egotistical delusions could prevent Pete from a lovely final home.

Lord, how I loathe that cretin.

Anyone know a shipper they trust for long distance moves?

So selfish. Pete deserves a soft landing.

I’ve used Hubbard both times shipping my mare (central CA to southern CA, then southern CA to KY). It wasn’t cheap but A. I wanted my horse moved NOW and B. Read too many horror stories of people paying Random Person On Facebook for hauling and it going poorly. Would use them again if going across states.

I wonder if this person might have any idea of Pete’s whereabouts.

How freaking long did she feed them for $2000? Geez.

While the feeder/caretaker of Falcon (and, presumably Pete) certainly needs and deserves to be paid, aren’t there other, business-like, methods like stableman’s lien and suing? Moocher/scammer to the end, it seems.

GoFundMe sounds inappropriate to me. Although I’d contribute if I weren’t so poverty-stricken.

It does look like Falcon will be moving on soon, for a bit more than twice what Cornflakey paid. Apply that same formula to Pete, and that’s about $450, I’d think.

I’m in roughly the same geographic area, and a quick perusal of CL horse ads confirms that 6k is unrealistic:
Mid 20s QH sitting for a year, previously kid horse: $400
14 yo pasture sound QH : $99
For $2k, we have early 20s kid-safe draft x trail horse, 16yo Tbx kid horse, 10 yo grade QH trail horse or 6 yo green mustang
In the 3-5k range, reg 1/2 Welsh green lg pony mare, utd on vet/farrier; 10yo paso fino mountain horse; 9 yo ASB from show barn utd including chiro; 3 yo green gelding started under saddle; teens grade BTST ranch horse; 5 yo green TWH; 20s BTDT QH kids horse; mid teens grade AQHA used for trails, local shows and jr rodeo; and 6 yo really cute Lusi x pony mare UTD on care solid on trails including overnights, high-lining, etc.
Old, marginally sound grade QH types are in the sub 2k range around here for sure.

I used Brookledge to move my 30+ year old pony from Colorado to South Carolina. It was pricy, but they took great care of my boy. I booked him a box stall so he could lie down. They had two drivers, so he was only on the truck about 36 hours. He came down the ramp looking happy and wanting to go on another trip.

I second Hubbard for long distant hauls as well as Brookledge, Creech and Sallie.

What gives me pause is, we don’t know where in MT and how accessible Pete is and most of those long haulers do the major east / west routes.

Why doesn’t she ask for reimbursement from the owner? He could pay with the money he’s making from selling the horse.

Why ask me? I don’t even know who the horsekeeper is!

If it’s a guess you want, mine is that she did ask, did bill him, and got bupkus. Further guess – the horsekeeper’s desire for payment, however expressed, helped (or caused) Puffed Cheat’s auction sale decision.

That GFM request is from April.

Personally, I would have had Cereal sign a paper stating that if I fed the horse, horse was going to be mine.

I wonder if the person that has Falcon and Pete could claim they were abandoned by Cereal and they are her’s now.

IF he is not paying for their care are they even his??? wink wink nod nod. … and the rumor is that there is no bill of sale stating Pete his Cereal’s?

Won’t that be amazing if Falcon sold on that auction, but he was not Cereal’s to sell due to some sort of stableman’s lien.

I was wondering myself about a stableman’s lien. Or if he will be sued in small claims court for board and care.

I just checked mare stare, and she has a post supposedly from Falcon’s original owner begging people not to bid on him at the auction because she misses the horse so much and wants him back.

Said she called and talked to him, he wanted $60,000. Later dropped to $25,000 or a truck; her family cannot afford that.

Quite the last minute bidding war occurring…

$9600… the winner was Johne(somenumbersIdon’tremember)
I was guessing Slyfox was possibly the previous owner?
