If he truly ran them on pavement for an hour, especially with the load both are carrying, I expect that there is serious foot damage and those horses will be down and reluctant to rise by tonight.
At the least, bruising and swelling inside the foot, which is excruciatingly painful for a horse to stand. And possibly even more damage.
The abscess must be mild, otherwise the horse wouldn’t be moving at all.

And they are going to a vet. Fingers-crossed there is enough funding provided for xrays of the feet and lower legs. But even if not, a good lameness vet will have a lot of information about how they are doing. Although we may never hear the vet report.
So ironic - early in the trip in San Angelo he was told that Falcon had to see a vet before he could continue. Now here close to the end, we finally get another authority to take the horses to the vet before he can continue.
