4,000 Beagles will be looking for new homes . .

Mine did a little digging but I was able to provide them with a ‘dig patch’ and they never dug anywhere else. I let them dig around one particular tree and lined the bottom of the fence with chicken wire. They seemed happy enough with the dig patch and didn’t bother anywhere else in the yard. Mostly when they were young. As they got older, digging apparently wasn’t that exciting anymore. I did have to resort to Grandma’s (my parents house) doggie daycare because of baying/barking. I worked evening and night shift. I don’t blame the neighbors at all.

I am retired now so don’t have those schedule constraints anymore. I am planning some trips in the next few months so will probably wait until next summer or fall for the dog search but a beagle is still high on my list.

Mine doesn’t dig at all and easily contained in a privacy or chain link fence.
He will slip out of a harness in a heartbeat so I only use a martingale (sp) collar and with a gentle leader to keep the nose up if we are out in public. He’s still working on his gentlemanly leash walking.
