$500 bank error in your favor. What do you buy?

Agreed. I don’t feel like $500 is enough for me to play. That’s just a load of hay. Not actual fun money.

Yup, I agree. And OP you can’t even get a Hadfields bridle for $500. ) At least mine wasn’t. It is at least $400+ for the headstall, I think my reins were about $175. This was more than 10 years ago, probably more expensive now.

Well this dud happen to me. I didn’t win it or get it by error. I earned it and I spent it grievously on whatever I wanted and not what I needed.

$200.00 at the local op shops on the one thing I did not need more of, clothes.

Nithung really was over $4.00 Active wear for riding. Proper bike riding pants, slacks, tops, skirts, socks, bras and the most beautiful dress for $15.00. I even bought some shorts which I haven’t worn before. I can wear at home as Summer us coming.

Online I bought things. Just stuff from off facebook. Thst you then look on Ebay and get for a few dollars. The latest is a pretty cheap smart watch. It seems to be working okay so far. 3 days. I bought things for the car like light up coasters for the cupholder, fix scratches, fix windscreen cracks, horses wearing sunglasses sunvisor, a reflective horse sticker to go on a mirror for the house. A horse breaking through the wall which will probably go on a freezer at a guess as we have vj walls. Air fans that go around your neck. A wellness bracelet that is more than just a magnet, an air filter necklace, mobile mobile phone chargers, a new device for cleaning teeth without a toothbrush, cat brush with catnip that you can attach to your furniture for then ti use for a friend.

Just stuff.

The rest us going towards what I would really like, an indoor arena.

I would stock up on my horse’s pricey hoof supplement, get a tube of Leovet Thermo-Massage - 500ml and Cavalor Buteless rub since I’m just curious to try both out. Pay the most recent vet bill, and if there was anything left over, put it to a massage or chiro session (for the horse - not me obviously)

It’s sad that $500 isn’t even that much “play” money anymore when it comes to horses.

There are a lot of people on this thread who would, if their friends were asked to describe them in one word, likely be described as “uptight”.

Loosen up, kids. It’s hypothetical. I’d probably blow it on a frivolously fun pair of boots.

I’m not uptight. I’m just old enough to remember when $500 could get you a whole new show outfit or a decent saddle!

Now it’s not even enough to splurge on the most popular models of helmets or off the rack tall boots. Heck, SmartPak carries 3 bridles priced over $500!

And the sad thing is I’m not even that old.

I might use some of it to buy supplies for some household projects and an old wooden chest of doors to store things in my tackroom. The rest I would save. It always seems like some unexpected expense comes up and having some savings helps me to be more prepared. I generally won’t buy things unless they are a really good deal. I HATE to pay retail. If I were going to spend the money, I’d wait for black friday sales or after christmas!!!

Or of course contribute to the money to a good cause.

Snow shoes. I have no idea what they cost, but I need a pair to keep the insane Huskey x border collie cross my husband brought home exercised through the winter! The rest would go into the Chai Latte fund.

Not uptight. Just scrupulously ethical.

Well if it is free money and I don’t have to pay it back I would be looking at a full cheek snaffle , nice bride, rope reins with slobber straps and saddle pad for my young horse. I would put the rest in the savings account.

Very uptight. It’s not even real. You understand what hypothetical means, right? geez Louise, kiddo. Relax.

… Help partially fund the installation of an automatic sunshade for the trailer…

… Better solar lights for my trailer

… Triple K leather pommel bag

leave it in the bank and say nothing. You know if you mention it , your horse will hear about it and immediately put in for a $1000 vet call

Stock up on pentosan and omoguard. Because I’m boring like that and with 6 horses in work, it never goes astray.

Or put it down as a deposit on a pair of custom top boots.

Me, I’d travel back in time and buy Patchy all over again. 500 dollar horse in early 1990s money. He was the best horse I’ll ever own.

I figure if the bank makes an error in my favor anything is possible.

Our horses are all living the good life, one vet bill at a time.

Funny you should mention that! Just this past week i went to poshmark and bought 14 pair of boots for UNDER 500.00! (just added it up, came to 483 in total) Now i can throw away three old pair that are too worn out. All of them just rack Steve Maddens (which i know fit me perfectly in 8.5 size).
I’d been pouring over tall boots online, but just couldn’t put myself through it. I want boots that fit. In my earlier life i tried and tried to get a pair of good boots…bought and sold two pair and had custom made field boots and gave them away.
If i can ride a mustang in a show than i can certainly wear just plain ole black boots. I’m a function person, not a fashion person.
edited to put up pics of 4 of them. cowboy boots are pull-ons, other three zip up the back
