$500 just to look? WTF?

Oh-kaaay. With all due respect, I didn’t feel it was necessary to fly from Georgia to Wisconsin to look at this horse. If I was spending $10,000 or more on a horse I intended to event or hunt with, then definitely. But not for a draft-x, generic mutt mare that I was gonna use for pleasure. Just simply not necessary.

I spoke with the owner/trainer many times on the phone and through e-mail, showed her every picture that I had of where the mare would be boarded, how I practice horse care and gave her my vets names/numbers to check my references, as well as the farm owner and the previous farm owner I boarded with. We clicked right away and I’m still in contact with her to this day, sending her updates and pictures.

All in all, it was an excellent buying experience for both parties. I didn’t have to pay a “non-refundable” deposit just for the privilege of looking at her horses–just the $10 for a video. I also knew I wouldn’t have to pay a “restocking fee” if I didn’t take her, nor pay by-the-hour for help in loading her on the shipper’s trailer. Also didn’t have to pay board per day while waiting for the shipper to pick her up.

Realize that this thread has more views than the No Reinstatement thread?

I guess it just all depends…but if I’m looking online, the tone of the correspondence and tone of the website will either make or break a decision to give someone serious thought (first impressions, you know?)

There are many wonderful people out there who do use the internet! (I loff ChocoMares horses!! pretty pretty!)

But the $500 deposit place is definitely not a site I get a warm tingley feeling from. I personally would feel more comfortable buying a horse at auction…:uhoh:

Ok, this has had me wondering since last night-what farm is that?

Humble thanks ER

You also nailed it on the “tone” of VSH’s site. It was very condescending, snotty and highly arrogant. Why would I want to do business with someone who can’t even come across as friendly and personable in the written word?

Ack, what happened??

I was busy for a day and now I check in and find that this thread has gone to 20+ pages?? Can someone please fill me in, or direct me to the relevant page/s? I’m guessing the farm took their site down because of this thread, but did anyone ever get a reply to their queries? Thanks. (I’m shamelessly nosey).

No, no no no, I think she has been blacklisted from WTD, please check with horse_poor for verification as I may be wrong…

Go back to Page 21 and start with Madeline’s post from this morning. That’s when she found that a lot of the pages from the site had majikally disappeared.

I should have called it a RANCH instead, if that gives you a clue…

well it was a political stab…

I wonder how many of these charming prospects will end up “liquidated” by their buyers?

Precisely! Dobby cost well under $10k and was hunting his 2nd season and jumping 3’ in the ring. He was young but proven and with a temper and ground manners suitable for anyone. Between the VSH “rules of engagement” and the prices and the apparent illegality of certain aspects of the operation those decent horses are doomed!

I haven’t read all the pages here yet but this is one I was wondering about too. How do they know if a buyer found their supplier via their site, or just stumbled across the farm all on their own? I mean, if these are PMU horses from Canada, I might very well be neighbors with one of their suppliers. What if I went & bought a foal from this neighbor…and turns out my foal was one they had on their website–which I wouldn’t know because I haven’t even looked at their horse pages, their stupid policy page is too much for me!–so in all innocence I buy this foal, and they’re going to ruin my reputation, have me put on their suppliers’ blacklist, and maybe tar & feather me besides?? Oh dear, now I am terrified. I’ll never be able to buy another horse.

i just ran this by a criminal lawyer at our barn. actually what they are talking about is fairly illegal.

Well, I was just cruising what was left of the site and it crashed on me…just disappeared while I was looking at Caesar - 2006 Woodland Pony/Connemara Cross Colt (as they tried to control the dam with a piece of baling twine…).

Poof

They are looking for riders, any takers?

Oh, but I simply am not worthy of that honor

I don’t need to be babysat, per se, but I do need to be burped and have my diaper changed every now and then. Think they’ll take me?

“We are a busy operation with no time for individuals who need to be babysat or disciplined…”

Well I guess that counts me out

C’mon! Practice your chair seat all w/e (if you saw the Argentinian you will know that is the type of riding which is required) and GET IN THERE and let us know WTF this woman is all about? You could request $500 for your time if they want to do an interview (akin to a PPE).
