$500 just to look? WTF?

Nope - just realized I painted myself into a corner - can’t defend without being maligned, can’t explain without violating a confidence.

Please, continue with the train wreck.

No - I know those people - have known them from wayyyyyback.

Horse world is very small, isn’t it.

I’ll insert a positive comment…

Since there has been so much negative about the site (understandably), I thought I’d insert a positive.

So many posters have complained about sales websites that are not updated, that do not have pictures and prices, etc. It’s nice to go to a website that is kept current, that has pictures of their sales horses, and most have a video as well.

Losers!

What a bunch of [deleted for language] losers! Some of you people profess to own horses, yet you’ve been on your computer for 4 days trashing someone else…for whatever reason, jealously, pettiness, mean spiritedness, whatever…when REAL horse people would have been out riding.

A friend sent me a link to this thread because we were just discussing the poor white trash that we see in the horse world. You know the type…The owner of “arabs” (ArabHorse2) who lives in Appalachia (where people still use outhouses)…the secretary who’s wasting her bosses money trashing someone while she’s at work (BelladonnaLily), the [deleted for language] with an IQ of two who can’t even understand sarcasm (ShowJumps…yea that makes her 110!).

I’d never heard of the Chronicle of the Horse before and now I understand why…what’s this rag written on toilet paper? It certain attracts the kind of trash that would indicate…you even have a “moderator” participating in a discussion…

Didn’t think so.

Funny how no one ever complains the numerous times websites are posted here in a complimentary way. As soon as it’s UNcomplimentary, suddenly it’s a different story.

When you publish material on the WORLD WIDE web, it is assumed that it is for the public to read. You can’t control how the public responds to it.

No one has launched a malicious denial of service attack against the website’s servers. No one has suggested doing any harm to this woman or her facility. No one has done anything other that express an opinion. Last I checked, that was protected free speech… even if it is not a complimentary opinion, and even if it results in someone losing business. If that were libel, Roger Ebert would have been out of a job a long time ago."

IS SHE THAT STUPID!!! or is it possible that she’s some pent up, overweight house frau who has nothing else to do with her life but tear other people down??? I’d say that’s more than likely.

If this commentary is supposed to be constructive (that’s when I knew I was in hillbilly heaven…when someone ACTUALLY said they were doing this because of the policies), then why are all of the attacks personal??? This woman is trying to run a business and you people are threatening to go to her home, putting up aerial shots of her farm, and sending her e-mails…

Hey Ironwood Farm…watch for the aerial shots and personal information that’s being posted on another thread as we speak…see how you like having folks see where you live.

“Ironwood Farm - I’m very surprised you would engage in this behavior. If people on the net targeted you and you lost business or your business reputation suffered - methinks you would be none too pleased either.”

I can’t wait to get ahold of your customer list.

You ask for reasons people deal with VSH, then when 3 or 4 people come forward the [deleted for language] trash on this board goes out of their way to malign them with personal attacks. You aren’t the least bit interested in facts…just abuse…of course that’s how mediocre people get their jollies…and I think calling you mediocre is an insult to mediocre peope everywhere. Why would Ms. Booth or any of her customers want to wallow in the sewer with slime like you? I’m assuming every one of you has at least one communicable disease…why else would you stay in the house with nothing else to do?

I hope this business owner sues the [deleted for language] out of Chronicle of the Horse…I certainly intend to write a letter to the editor…and I’ll make sure that I tell EVERYONE I know (and that’s an awful lot of horse people) not to purchase this rag…or the deal with any of the trash that’s involved with it.

Sorry, that’s one of the funniest posts I’ve seen in forever.

Oh my, have I just been libeled? Can I sue? Nice language by the way, Dagan.

If you’re going to trash me, please get your info correct. What’s wrong with Appalachia, by the way? Rugged, rural, some very pretty places.

I actually live near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, with indoor plumbin’ and everthin’. Even gots that newfangled ‘lectricity everbody’s talkin’ about. Gots all m’own teef, and I cain’t say I ever done et possum er squirrel. Appalachia starts farther south, by the way.

And what’s with the quote around “arabs”? I have Arabians. Not a crime, as far as I know. Could be a sign of insanity, that’s true, but certainly not illegal.

And do you have a name, breeds of horses, and will post where you live? I certainly did. Have at it, Dagan.

Oh, and I’ve already fed, watered, ridden, and cleaned stalls today, so I’m waiting with bated breath for your concise, well written answer.

Dammit, caught in the act. You got me-that’s why I haven’t posted in almost 2 days…haven’t read past page 18 yet. Been too busy schedualing the transportation.
They are only charging me $5 a mile to Ohio-but I do have to pay the round trip because there are no meat auctions next weekend so they can fill their other orders. There is an additional $250 hook up charge, I have to pay for gas and there is a $100 clean up and unhook charge.

But this is a very special horse. I can’t wait to see my trainer’s face when she sees it:D

And she thought I needed help to pick a Hunter prospect;)

i have not jumped on the bandwagon of mean spiritedness, BUT, no one is going to tell me that i cant say someone else has unusual or even flat out wrong or misleading business practices that could potentially be harmful to a novice, inexperienced or naive first time horse person and so i have made several posts in regards to the published policies

I’ll repeat my statement that i have a friend that foxhunts that has known other people to have had positive interactions with this farm

i asked my friend to contact the people that she knows who have purchased horses and had positive experiences to please come and post on this thread – she’s going to send them an email i think

my friend also said “if you don’t like her policies, don’t buy from her” and i agree with that. she felt that the people who are mainly buying from vsh are experienced people who know that prospects are just that, prospects, they may turn out good or bad.

If experienced horse people have been choosing to do business under the policies that have been published on her website, then i doubt those people care about the discussion going on here - they know what they are getting into and have found that it works for them - no discussion on COTH is going to damage those business relationships

if a novice horse buyer reads this thread and that discourages them from doing business with vsh, well then they are probably not experienced enough to be buying from this sort of business model

and it is indeed a valid business model for selling a lot of products – if she is sucessuful selling unvetted horses to buyers by internet alone then it makes sense to discourage people from coming to the farm – how much simpler and straightforward to complete the sale online

i have nothing against the knowledgable buyer choosing to take a risk, it is not very different from when i discuss with people buying a horse off the track, i think you should only buy horses off the track if you plan to get 4 at at time – then 1 will be lame and go away at a loss, 2 will be so-so average and be sold at average prices, and hopefully 1 will be special

i suspect this lady wants to deal with that sort of buyer rather than someone looking for that amazing love of their life horse that has to be perfect and will be gone over with a fine tooth comb and after many hours of deliberations will be rejected because it mane falls on the wrong side of the neck all for the price of 1500 which has been haggled down to 1150

i imagine dealing with a lot of unbroke horses being purchased by unknowlegable buyers at low prices would not be fun, sometimes dangerous, always frustrating, and she has gotten burned in a lot of different deals in different ways, and so for each problem she has added a policy to make sure “that” never happens again

she can run her business how she wants, i can see WHY she would want to have most of those policies in place

I can’t believe people are DEFENDING that webside. Hi - long time lurker first time poster to this thread… have the defenders actually READ her regulations, rules, policies and general motif of her (now mostly previous) website!? SHE DID NOT LOSE BUSINESS BECAUSE OF US - well unless we educated some of those fat older mothers who apparantly think more of themselves then they really are that there were KIND people who would not Nickel and Dime them (FOR HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS) for loading, stalling, P(RE)PE, Grooming, Shoeing, etc… or over charge them for barely broke horses! No, I think the majority of the “bad drama” comes from the fact that NO HORSE PERSON WOULD EVER THINK SUCH A SITE WOULD EXIST. Horse people would like to PROTECT their own (perhaps less educated in the horse industry) from this VSH, who would seem to LOVE to GOUGE their customers, or place the WRONG horse with them (where one would have to sell such a beast in a liquidation sale at a huge loss).

oh for goodness sakes…

there goes J Swan “suggesting” what others should do again. We’ve already heard from folks who actually visited the place in question. And it wan’t pretty. If this place is just a “business” for horses, then true horse people have every right to question their practices. Let’s not forget one of the words used regarding horses was “liquidation”…

Yet another one heard from…so you’ve dealth with VSH and you know for a fact that they “love to gouge their customers”. Can you give us specific examples of their customers that have been gouged? I’d love to hear who it was…again this is a personal attack…not a criticism of policies. Of course, after reading through this bulletin board it seems to be the kind of thing Chronicle of the Horse encourages…all talk, no facts.

Oh and ArabHorse2, thanks for the information, I just found your town in a previous post so I’ll post an aerial and directions to your house shortly…did I mention you’re having a field party next weekend?

 I just got called a REAL horse person. If you MUST know, I was at a dressage show this morning (my first show in 3 years) and got two third placings. Scores on one in the low 60s (judge was tough) and one in the mid-60s (judge was kind - actually tied for 2nd on this one, but other rider had better collective marks).

Oh, and I’m a well over 40, needs to lose 30# (maybe more) woman (no kids) and, I actually own a true registered Canadian Sport Horse. I’m planning to get back into eventing, but I surely won’t be doing it on a “$500 just to look at it” PMU, thanks so much.

HAVE YOU READ HER WEBSITE - i think all your questions of “dealing with her” should be answered by simple reading of the material she listed in her website that would leave anyone to believe she would gouge customers, or leave them with horses unsound, unusable, etc.

Read it

Yup I read through her website, all of the customer comments…including the ones on specific horse pages…and her policies…to me her policies are very straight forward. I’d much rather deal with a person like that then someone who weasels and waffles. She states what her horses are and puts a price up…not many horse dealers have websites with price lists on them. The site was UTD, and she put a lot of effort into providing information.

As for policies, I don’t agree with all of them. If I didn’t agree I would have GOTTEN ON THE PHONE AND ASKED…I wouldn’t have hidden behind the anonymity of a bulletin board to trash someone’s business. To me this shows a level of cowardice and pettiness that I can’t even fathom.

Oooh, a field party? Good, you can bring a bush hog and cut my danged acreage for me.

Sorry Dagan, you can’t FIND my house on an aerial photo map, but good attempt at intimidating me. Keep trying.

Dagan,

You have been 100% more offensive than any of us. Why jump in on the 29th page and start cursing and calling people fat twats? Uncalled for.

You are the disgusting one here.

Offensive???

Oh my, and you don’t find it offensive that this thread has spent 4 days trashing a business that not one of you has dealt with??? That the attacks have been personal, petty, and mean spirited! I’m so sorry I insulted your delicate sensibilities. If I could do more I would…like maybe try to destroy your business??? Post your address on the web with directions? Put up aerial photos? Oh I forgot, you already did all that…but you hid in a bulletin board to do it.

I give this about another hour…
