Oh, Elon Grad, eeeeeeekkkk…let’s not insult the WTD crowd! They may not give us our next smashed beer can medal no matter how many leapbuckfarts we include in our next test!
Seriously, I think that J Swan has a very valid point regarding the elemental concept that if you don’t like this woman’s policies (and Hrskpr states it very nicely that the website is totally clear and up front abouther polcies and attitudes and approach to the business rather than doing the wink and steal method), then just don’t participate… don’t go there, don’t buy horses and if you know any “green” horse people tell them to be very sure they understand the stated policies very clearly before they become customers so that they are not spending money they may not want to spend.
Someone in an earlier post posited that Ms. Booth’s business sounded like it was geared to those who are NOT looking for that serious horse-love that alot of us have (admit it, girls!!!) searched for and found. I think there is a very high likelihood that is exactly what this particular business is about. I, myself, spent quite alot of time looking around before getting my Doc (QH)and now my Dabby(OTTB). For ME, these two horses are VERY big deals in my life as I had always wanted my own horse and now they are like family members. But, there are many horse folks that deal more in “numbers” of horses because they are trying to actually “do business” in showing or breeding or training or teaching riding or whatever and so they look at buying a horse more as an investment than a prized pet.
And, Dagan, I’d like to know more about YOUR own horse experience? Are you a horse owner, and if so, how was your experience in selecting your horse(s)? I do not mean that in a sarcastic manner (text is hard…no voice inflections!), but as a real question…because it helps to know what others have gone through or how they have dealt with various issues. Or, perhaps are you a business owner yourself and so you know the vagaries of dealing with business issues? It’s a tough market out there.
Also, Dagan,it’s OK to be angry and need to vent with your opinion when you see something going on that you feel is a negative thing, but calling people here “twats” and using the f-word is not conducive to getting that opinion heard…people get “stuck” on those words and aren’t hearing your voice clearly regarding the OPINION you have. Name calling (whether it’s from people here on the board or from new “outsiders” is NOT helpful. I think you have a right to your opinion and even your anger considering your viewpoint, but let’s leave the nastiness aside…people will hear you more clearly.
AT any rate, folks, if this lady’s website copy has created this much furor, then she IS going to feel the effects of it. No matter what she wants to charge for whatever activities (that is HER choice as it is HER business, whether or not her practices coincide with generally agreed upon horse business practices…it’s a free country).
I DO personally feel that she could have worded her copy in a less offensive manner yet still provide CLEAR rules of practice of her business, so some of this reaction lies with that kind of communication style. IF she is trying to keep out the riff-raff or time wasters so that her profit margins are higher and the hassles are lower, in essence I can understand that viewpoint. I don’t think she’s properly given that impression because of HOW the copy is/was written. I would have worded things entirely differently had that been my objective. As I pointed out in an earlier post, I wonder who actually did the copywriting? She might have been better served in her goals with things worded differently.
HOWEVER, alllllll of that being said ---- J Swan and Dagan have valid points in that Ms Booth’s business has been highly attacked. Wouldn’t it just be better to advise your friends to not buy from her if that’s your feelings about the matter?
