$500 just to look? WTF?

Aside for the VSH connection, I find that very amusing. A “Warmbloods only” site that doesn’t know what a warmblood is. It’s one of the banes of my existence that when I am helping people “horse hunt” I have to wade through ad after ad for “warmbloods” only to find that many of them are draft crosses.

I was doing this recently for a friend, and it was very annoying. (She finally found a nice Hanoverian P-line filly). VSH has it both ways: they say it’s a draft cross, but call it a warmblood anyway. Well, they’re not the only ones to do that, certainly, but that doesn’t make it correct. More annoying are the ones who won’t even say it’s a draft cross until you pin them down on the breeding.

If you haven’t checked out the site recently, policies page isn’t up, but everything else is, for the most part. The sales list is also updated and no longer includes “Canadian Sporthorse” as the breed of any of them.

I personally have a farm I already deal with in Canada that is a very nice family run farm if I decided I wanted to get another draftx, and the prices (with shipping) are less and their horses are VERY nice and all come halter broke with first set of shots and unaltered coggins. But, I’ll stick with my OTTB’s for the time being.

Why? Because like half the posts are yours?

Actually, the first page of the website still states that they sell Canadian Sporthorses:

“Virginia Sporthorses (VSH) specializes in selecting, importing, and training Canadian Sporthorses.”

Unfair to the people who are trying to market and promote actual registered Canadian Sporthorses.

I know!

I know, I know!!! (waves hand in the air). Do I get a prize??? I only know because it was the first horse I looked at on the website. Here’s the link:

Hmmmm…somehow the photo is over the copy so you can’t read it…

Why yes you do…an 8 X 10 autographed (hoofprint) color head shot!!!

Umm…

Weren’t Thoroughbreds started as a cross between Arabs and Drafts(or at least a heavy type horse)? Does that make them warmbloods?

Spoke with Liz…

Okay I have my flame retardent suit on…I’m ready…well I think I’m ready…

First, she was in the process of having a pre-purchase vet exam done on a horse when I called her…

Second, the pages that are missing from the webserver are missing because the server was compromised over the past 4 days when the sqyl server crashed from over use, and outside “attacks”.

Third, she’s been busy selling horses for the past 4 days…some because of the COTH thread…and she doesn’t have time to spend on a bulletin board because she’s busy with her business, caring for horses and foals, and her family.

Fourth, she HAS answered all of the legitimate e-mails she’s received, BUT there were numerous e-mails from people with false e-mail addresses (non@non.com was one she remembered) and when she tried to respond she got a return and failure to deliver message. She continues to be happy to respond to e-mails from anyone who identifies themselves and has a legitimate e-mail address.

Finally, she’d like to thank everyone for their input…she’s reviewing it and considering what should be changed right now. In the meantime, she’d be happy to speak to anyone who would like to call her at 540.872.3517.

Beats hands proudly accross chest

Thoroughbreds galloped from the waves and the wind when they were summoned by The Gods. DUH!

Works for me…

Hmm…works fine for me…maybe your screen resolution?

OMG, I finally made it here…to the 52nd page…the screen is starting to get blurry…

Good grief, no!! Three (some say four) foundation Arab/Barb sires crossed with native English horses - not drafts. Would you cross to a draft if you wanted a race horse? The foundation sires were crossed on horses of various breeding… Spanish jennets (not donkeys!), and other LIGHT horses then extant (17th century) in England. And TBs are generally regarded, like Arabs, as “hot blooded.”

Oh… so if I make a “10 minute film” of my mare, she’s a movie star?

Wait… aren’t all the horses on VSH with videos movie stars?

No - because it looks like we’re going for another 1000 posts. Talk about beating a dead horse… I think I’ll go to the dressage forum and participate in a rollkur thread. At least those folks are more creative when they bash me.

Besides - if I had posted have the responses it would have been over 500 posts. I can’t type that fast.

I sent a legitimate email and so did three other people and none of us got a reply.
But I am glad our discussion prompted her to rethink her “policies and practices”. Is your mention of a pre-purchase to make a point - she now allows vet checks before money changes hands? GREAT!!! One down, a few to go.
Perhaps you could ask her to check her mail again and respond to those who have real addresses. She must have missed a few.

But MM, if she’s so busy running her business, then she can’t possibly waste time on the phone with horrid people like us.

Plus then J Swan will accuse us of harrassing the poor woman, when the idea from calling came from you!

Outside attacks? I hardly think any of us are that pathetic. Did you see the outrage to a rescue site that got hacked? She removed the info, changed it, put it back up. A true “attacker” wouldn’t have deleted the info, they would have added their own flair to it. Although it would have been difficult to make her policies any more absurd and humorous than they already were!

Driving by a place isn’t harrassment, by the way. I’ve driven by the barns I’ve boarded at, see if some of the horses were still there (in particular a very nice old gelding with the generic name Poco who was a grand ol’ 27 years of age last I saw him) and to see how much had changed. Is this stalking? Harrassment? No, just feeding my curiousity. From her old policies, she made it sound as though her horses were perhaps not in the best shape, muddy, etc. She said not to expect a groomed horse! I’d be curious to see how her version of ungroomed differed from mine. Public roads are public, and yes, I can stop on them and lollygag at horses in a field if I so wish, provided I stay on the “right” side of the fence.

A.P. - How did you come about her site to begin with? (just wondering)

Geez - from your other posts you seem to be a pretty good sort - but I really think you may need to take a deep breath and count to ten or something - you’re going to burst a blood vessel or something.

I just came in to cool off from doing chores to see y’all are still after this lady. What on earth is so fascinating? I don’t see it. Seems like we’re just going in circles, doesn’t it?

Where is the BIG YAWN smiley?
